Okay i went to the doctors, yesterday. She said i have a Sinus infection, My head hurts so bad and i feel awful!! She gave me amoxcillin and predinisone. She said start taking the Amoxcilln for 10 days, and if i don't feel better by Monday to start taking Predinsone!! She said she does not like giving out Predisone so only take it for 5 days, if you think you need it!! This morning i had really bad post nasal drip and i spit up this dark brown red looking stuff, and my mom said it's that dark becuase i'm taking that infection medication, which is clearing out my nose. Do you think thats the reason?? When you look up my nose it looks like one nasal polyp is really big and red.. Thats why i think i need to take predisone to get the inflammation outt!! Do you think the amoxcilln will help with inflammtion too??? Thanks

You need to take the antibiotic and give it time to work. Listen to her as she is the doctor. You don't want to start taking the steroids if you don't have to. Monday is only 3 days away, that way you will know if the antibiotic will have started working. It takes a few days for the antibiotic to work.

I usually have 2 sinus infections a year. I also take Mucinex to help with the drainage. You really do not want to take the steroids if you don't need them. There are reasons for this. You can call the doctor back or whoever is on call if you are that concerned and ask them, but I would listen to what she said and hang on. You could also go turn on the shower and sit in the bathroom as that will help. You could also ask the pharmacist. I hope you feel better soon.

Here is a website on dangers of steroid use. I have had to use steroids for when I had an allergy reaction that went haywire to calm it down. http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/stay_healthy/fit/steroids.html

Your body can get use to it and may need it in the future. Here are the dangers of the use of steroids. Prednisone is a steroid. My mother had to have it and she could only have it every few months even though she needed it sooner for her severe allergy reactions:
Dangers of Steroids
Anabolic steroids cause many different types of problems. Less serious side effects include acne, oily hair, purple or red spots on the body, swelling of the legs and feet, and persistent bad breath. A kid or teen who takes steroids might not grow as tall as he or she was supposed to grow. Some other serious and long-lasting side effects are:

premature balding
dizziness
mood swings, including anger and sadness
seeing or hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations)
extreme feelings of mistrust or fear (paranoia)
problems sleeping
nausea
vomiting
trembling
high blood pressure that can damage the heart or blood vessels over time
aching joints
greater chance of injuring muscles and tendons
jaundice or yellowing of the skin; liver damage
trouble peeing
increased risk of developing heart disease, stroke, and some types of cancer
These risks affect girls:

increased facial hair growth
deeper voice, like a man's
shrinking of the breasts
period changes
Specific risks for boys include:

shrinkage of the testicles and penis problems
pain when urinating (peeing)
breast development

It may take several days of taking the antibiotic before you see any results but keep taking it until the prescription is empty. This is important to do with antibiotics. I also heard a Dr say on tv the other day that using raw sea salt dissolved in water will help a sinus infection. He said to take a small amount of sea salt and dissolve it in a tablespoon of water and sniff it up your nose. He said to expect some post nasal drip from this because it is cleaning out the infection. He also said it would start to help the infection right away so I think it would be worth a try. If you have any questions or concerns about the prednisone you should contact your Dr. I hope you will soon be feeling better.

Ouch!
Take the drugs your doctor gave you. Exactly as described. Your nose is just the facet, your sinus's are what are infected, you can not see these. Even looking up your nose! Your sinus's are in the middle of your eyes, top part of your nose.
I also get these and I now go to the doctors right away if I feel my sinus's are getting a infection. I have the medications around here. One has to go to the doctors now for the real drugs the over the counter stuff they had to take this drug out of them and they no longer work for me.
That stuff you are spitting up is what your mother said it was. All the toxins the medication is killing, spit it out is best!
Amoxcillin is a penicillin I think they added a pain killer in there too, not sure. The other inflammatory is just that. If they doctor said she is hesitant on giving it to you then only take it when you call her nurse to ask about it. She is the doctor...
Good luck and yes these hurt like crazy!!

Amazing how things went from bad to worse all these years. I've had quite a number of sinus infections when I was ... ( never mind, that was a long time ago). Been using simple things like getting more magnesium in my food, and it worked seamlessly. It's been more than 35 years now I haven't seen that coming back. For what it's worth, you might want to get on taking magnesium salts tablets. Ask for that in herbal medicine shops.

How did you and other 30 to 50 million Americans get this?.
Before we get to the point, here's what the doctors say you can do to unstuff your sinuses, reduce pain and pressure, and get the air flowing freely.
1 ) Get all steamed up : Lean over a pan full of steaming water with a towel draped over your head, creating a steam tent.Inhale the vapors as they waft up toward your nostrils.
2 ) If you are at work get a cup of coffee, tea.or soup and sniff.
3 ) Use A/C when you sleep.
4 ) Bathe your nostrils weekly so the fungus won't shop.
5 ) Drink to your heart's content hot & cold fluids.
6 ) Blow your nostrils one by one at a time.
7 ) Forget your manners.Go ahead and sniffle
8 ) Try OTC tablet 'Sudafed' for decongesting your nose.
9 ) Drain the sinuses and escort stale secretions down the throat.
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2007..

You probably also feel crummy because of a fever, which can be reduced by taking Tylenol or the generic version (Acetominophen). You may also need something for drainage as well, such as Guaifenesin, which is available over-the-counter as Mucinex, or Walgreens just calls it, "Mucus Relief". It's better than Sudafed because it doesn't raise your blood pressure like Sudafed does.

Both of these will make you feel much better.
