Rabies IS the medical term. It's a virus (specifically a lyssavirus) that is usually transmitted through saliva by the bite of an infected animal.
Once it has infected a person, the virus makes a beeline towards the brain via the peripheral nerves, eventually taking up residence in the brain and causing massive encephalitis (brain swelling). The end result is bizarre behavior, cerebral edema, confusion, overproduction of saliva, stupor, and death.
Due to it's unique method of propagation (via the nerves), and it's single-mindedness in advancing on the brain, it is impossible to test for without a brain-tissue biopsy. But by the time the virus takes up residence in the brain, mortality is virtually 100%.
A vaccine is available and can be used to "cut the virus off at the pass" at the peripheral nerves if given soon enough after infection (before the virus reaches the brain) with excellent success. However, once it has reaches the brain, there is little that can be done.
Also, the vaccine is no longer administered by a shot into the abdominal wall, as in days past. These days, it is given in the form of 5 injections, one at the site of the bite and 4 intramuscularly away from the bite.
Best Wishes,
-Dr. Finn

I don't recall the technical name for the bacteria that causes rabies but I can tell you this. it is caused by being bitten by an animal or person who is already infected. rodents are the primary carrier of rabbies as they develope it like dags can acquire distemper. it is a natural occuring bacteria that is ingested by animals and then transmitted my saliva. Once contacted symptoms are progressive. you suffer from fever and disorientation, gradualy it eats away at your gray matter and you suffer from delussions and hydrophobia, the fear of water. This is actaully the most unusual symtom, and appears only in advanced cases. at that point you are so far goe that you will not let others help you since you are going quite mad and the damage to you brain is so advanced that it is fatal in many cases. the other symtom to look for is numbness at the bite area. the bacteria kills off the nerve endings and you loose feeling in that area. hard to notice sometimes but it is one of the earlier symtoms to look for. in animals they produce increasingly large amounts of saliva and thus the foaming at the mouth.

Rabies isn't transmitted with the aid of the air like the consumer-friendly chilly. the only way you may capture it incredibly is with the aid of direct touch with the contaminated animal, particularly the saliva (as nicely as techniques and spinal twine remember, yet that for sure basically applies if coping with a lifeless animal). in this admire it is such as AIDS in that it demands transmission into the bloodstream. in case you have touch with the saliva of an contaminated animal and any of it gets into even the main minute cuts on your skin you may grow to be contaminated. it incredibly is why positioned up exposure vaccinations are strongly stated regardless of in case you basically puppy or carry an contaminated animal - you do not might desire to get bitten.
