people have told me that babies and children are "innocent" ie., without sin. They have also stated that babies and children are not charged with sin until they reach the "age of accountability." I do not know where they came up with this "age of accountability" but it is widely taught. In Psalms 51:5 David under the inspiration of the Holy Ghost states: "Behold, I was shapen in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me." Are babies and children under the judgment of God just as any other sinner?

Yes. It is the inherent sin that comes from Eve. Otherwise, why do the extremely virtuous humans whose sin was to not believe Christ was God wind up in Hell? Just a thought.

I think you have to distinguish between Sin, as an indwelling tendency in human nature and acts of sin. There is a innate tendency in every human toward rebellion. This is plainly evident to any parent. Usually the first word any toddler masters with any degree of command is the word "No!"
I do not believe God assigns guilt to one because of their nature. It is acts of rebellion that are punished.
Some may say "that's not fair!". Well, you could say it is not fair that one baby is born to a crack addict and another born to a wealthy successful happily married couple. That's just the way life is. It wasn't that way at the beginning, it became that way through sin. God has not left us without recourse. The honest man will recognize his true condition and call upon God to save him, as it says "Oh wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from the body of this death?" (Romans 7:24)
I thank God there is deliverance through Our Lord Jesus Christ!

This scripture is saying that those on this earth who are truly wicked usually express those traits early on in life. As far as Psalms 51:5 goes, we are all imperfect. Sin doesn't cause imperfection, it's the other way around. If you were to take a person from birth and isolate them from everything and somehow prevent them from sinning, they'd still be imperfect. Their bodies would eventually break down from old age, and they'd die.

Ah. You're going to get multiple answers about the proper "interpretation" of this passage.

In reality, the Bible is so full of contradictions that it is logically impossible to take the whole thing literally; some parts must be "interpreted" to say something other than face value in order for the whole to make sense. And different people choose different parts to "interpret" differently, hence the constant bickering among Christian denominations.

Become a Pagan. When your Bible is in the wind, the earth, and the water, there isn't anything to argue about.... and no make-believe "hell" to fret over.
