She makes me really nervous and all she does is smiles at me nicely. She's usually nice to me but she still scares me. How can i not be afraid of her?

You have to think that it is not about your teacher it is about you . You like to sing so you have to get up their and say my passion is singing so thats what Im going to do wheather you like it or not. It will help you conquer your fear and you will get to do what you enjoy and once you make it into choir then you won't be afraid anymore.

She's probably hear you sing enough already to know who she might pick and who she might not pick. Often choir directors are auditioning for a lot of different things when they do this- she may already know that she wants you in the next advanced choir, or she may already have someone else in mind, but you showing that you can stand infront of her and sing out shows that you have bravery and determination- and even if you don't get in, this audition sticks with her as proof that you are someone she will want in the future. It's often not about how you sing, but a show of what you really want and how dedicated you want to be, show her you really want this and if it doesn't help you now- it could help you a lot next year.

Auditions are always very stressful. I have auditioned and listen to auditions many times.
VISUALIZE the experience in advance.
And maybe tell yourself that when you see her, the feeling you will no doubt feel will be positive and energizing, at least for that moment.
You will have to solve the reason she makes you feel this way, but not now at the audition. See yourself walking in, breathing deeply through the emotional reaction time, and then just singing your heart out.

Good Luck

i used to be afraid and nervous around everyone now I feel very confident in myself and I just realize not everyone is looking at me and smiling at me to just be nice. Maybe she is a nice person, maybe she thinks you really have talent. Just think to yourself that she knows you have the talent and her smiling at you is her sign to letting you know that you can do a great job! Go for it and knock her dead in her tracks!

Before your audition, be very well rehearsed. During the audition, don't look at the teacher but "look" inside yourself and the song you are singing. Concentrate on that and get into it!! If you do that, I don't think you will even be thinking of your teacher or anyone else. You'll be thinking of and feeling the song you are performing.

dont be nervous. your choir teacher went through music college getting a degree in teaching and singing, she wants to help you and everyone in your choir, she probably loves her job too. don't be nervous!

If she smiles and is nice to you, you are letting your fears run away with you. She sounds like a nice person. Just relax.

See the poster? Love the poster. Sing to the poster.

Keep your eye level just above her, and you'll look like you're keeping eye contact, but her gaze shouldn't distract you.

I've been in situations like that. Just imagine her as if she was your nicest friend watching you. That's all you've got to do. Just be yourself. Trust me, I am about to face some things like that.
