Everyone's gone 'internet-dating mad...........is that it now? Does that mean that everyone has to walk around with a placard on sayinf, 'I'm single, do you want a date'?!!! What's going on with relationship making these days?? I'm not even that old in my late twenties but I know this question may sound old!!!!

Claire, you're right, it doesn't matter how you meet people but that's my point - no-one seems to be able to meet people 'naturally' due to internet dating........

Its true. I'm in my twenties and I noticed this trend. It all revolves on technology. "SOME" people are too lazy, shy, unable for various reasons, to attend many social gatherings such as clubs and so forth, to make new acquaintances. So they rather put their picture on the web and hope for the best.
I am particularly against Internet dating because it cannot replace meeting someone at a bar or etc..and having a conversation. There's that spark that fly when someone meets a potential person they like. You can see someones demeanor when you first both meet. You don't see that in Internet dating. You simply see a picture that might have been hair brushed or that simply shows the person on their good days. You don't see the mannerism

Were the old dating ways really working out that well?? The internet has opened the door to a lot more possibilities, as well as more jerks and buttholes. All in all though, I think it's a great medium for meeting people and making friends. Your chances of finding someone more compatible as a friend or lover is a lot higher when there is a lot more variety.
But then again, maybe society has gone so techno savvy that dating has become techno savvy too.

We live in an information rich and time short culture. what to do? Yahoo dating were advertising "too busy working to meet people?" Thats where we are.
The online thing means you cut out a lot of time with the "are they/aren't they single" question.
But in answer to your question I don't think traditional methods will ever be dead.
You can't substitue that natural energy of a first meeting with the internet. Oh no.......

People find the Internet convenient. Get out in the world, talk with people everywhere. don't be looking for a date, just friends. you will find a more genuine relationship this way as you have the chemistry right in front of you to examine. over the Internet, who knows how much of the information the person gives is even true. and maybe those people are duds as daters and this is they way they have found can work for them.

i have been in 3 online relationships that all turned real life. i would have to say that for some people its a matter of convenience. i was not looking for a relationship...all three just kind of happened as i was good friends with them a good while before hand. but i do agree with you for the most part.

I think Internet Dating is one way to go but if I were single I would never do that.
Maybe because of my age I think it's a sign of desperation.
