I'm making an apple crisp and it has oats in the topping but it says they expired in November. Do you think they're ok to use. I mean it's just oats, or should I get new ones?

I am absolutely sure they are fine. If you like, to freshen their taste, you can spread them on a cookie sheet and bake them at 325 for maybe 15-20 minutes. Make sure you stir them every 5 minutes or so. They will develop a nuttier, fresher taste. Let them cool a few minutes before mixing with the rest of the topping for your dessert or they might melt the butter or shortening you are using.

Absolutely. I have read that most of the expired dates are of no real value any way. Like how could an oat e go out of date? what would be the process? It turns into something else. It loses ?color? crunch? Good lord think about these things and make your friendly grocery man explain it.

Yes, you can use the old oats. If they have recently (months not years) expired they are fine to use.

As long as you don't see bugs or something in them, they're fine. Expiration dates on dry goods are pretty approximate.

You can use them. The "expiration" dates are dated way ahead of when something will actually go bad.

Smell them. Oats have oils in them that can go rancid. If they smell good to you, then go ahead and use them.

they'll be fine. Sell by dates are just a guide, not a hard and fast rule.
