You must be confused. John Smith isn't connected to the Mormon church; he was an explorer who married Pocohantus. I'm not sure how young she was but I don't think he was a pedophile. Disney made a cartoon about it, you should check it out - it's easy watching, nothing confusing.

You can tell that the book you read was uninformed about the Mormon religion. First of all the Mormon Church was not started by a man named John Smith. John Smith was an early explorer. Joseph Smith organized the Mormon Church. If they did not even know the leader of the church's name how many other things in the book did they get wrong.

What really saddens me is when they say Mormon polygamists, not the sect they actually belong to. It puts a bad name on the LDS/Mormons, who do not practice polygamy. Any man with more than one wife is excommunicated immediately for practicing polygamy. But, it does give us a bad reputation. That said, I do feel for those women who are in polygamous marriages. They really don't have a personal life, all their decisions are a group decision. And polygamy is such a big part of their religions. A woman is expected to enter into a polygamous relationship, usually at a relatively young age, and she has no choice but to do so. I can't help but think that it must do something to her personally.

The answer to your question is no.
I was born and raised in this religion. You have read a book that is a flat out lie. My family has been in this religion since the 1850's. I am related to many of prominent old members of this religion. I would be interested in disussing Facts with you if you are interested in learning the truth. I'm not offering so I can try and convert you. I'm just interested in discussing truth and fact, not fiction. The Jewish anti-defamation league has also written many responses to some of the anti-mormon books.

To begin with, I am married to one woman. Mormons are a different type of believer. Multiple wives are accepted by all 3 Major religions though. Christians particularly misinterpret the rule of "One Wife" for men who want to be Pastors or Deacons (Book of Timothy). Polygamy and the age of consent are rules set by different societies. Who says that 18 is the legal age of consent...not the Bible.

You obviously have read nothing concerning the Mormon religion. No one named John Smith was the starter of this religion. Try to really do some of your own research then if you have pertinent questions ask them. You are just trying to insult people about something you know nothing about.

well, don't know who John Smith is....
Are you thinking of maybe Joseph Smith? And whom was the book written by - an anti-Mormon perhaps? I guess you would also believe what Nazi's have to say about the Jews....
Maybe read his History, that was written by himself, not someone who hated him and wanted to portray him in their own way.

Ewww you got your hands on a nasty, and very untrue book I'm afraid. Sadly, lots of those are published. The LDS Faith is is God's Church. The Book of Mormon is another testiment of Jesus' visit to the American Continent, after his resurrection. Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God, chosen to bring God's full Gospel back to the earth.

Depends what you consider a cult. If a cult is a religion founded by God and Jesus Christ, based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, and which teaches salvation through only Jesus Christ, then it is probably a cult. I'm guessing you aren't getting your information from the horses mouth, which is the only place I'd look if I really wanted to know about anything, religion or not.

What the heck? Your question has faults in everyone's thoughts of us already...
1) John Smith is from Pocahontas, not the founder of our church
2) Polygamy is banned in our church, as well as it is illegal (Article of Faith 12) "We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates and in obeying, honoring, and obeying the LAW"
Got to agree with Pinkadot here... I like his answers most of the time and this is no exception.
