I don't know if going into the Navy is necessarily a better idea, however I think that VERY FEW high school graduates are capable of truly appreciating college. I went to college after high school and I failed out. 15 years later I returned to college (I didn't tell the new university that I had failed out of the other one) and I graduated Magna *** Laude, I am now in Graduate school and I maintain a 3.75 GPA. Ithink peole should get life experience first to appreciate what college can do to improve their lives

I worked for the Navy, Actually I served in 3 branches of the Armed Forces, 2 enlisted , 1 Civil Service. If you choose to go to college you wil have to pay for the education costs. Everyone can get federally funded student loans, but in the Military, The Air Force & The Navy have the best education packages. Here you can attend college while you serve. Good Stuff!! They both have 100% Tuition Assistance. I am currently in the Air Force. I have 3 degrees and the Air Force paid for all of it. The navy has similar programs. I love the fact that I do not have ANY education debt. I just entered a real estate course, the AF forked out 4500.00 and I got a free lap top!! PREMO! All you have to do in these programs is maintain a "C" average and pass the course! You can take classes in ANYTHING you want to do, it doesent have to be related to what you do as a job.

The other reason you want to go military first, is that everyone that you go to college with, the ones that you attend the sames classes with for the degree you are after. These folks will turn into you competition later on when you are looking for a job.

The other reason, I got more experience on the job while I was attending classes, By the time a few of my buddies went to college for their trade, I was already doing the job and had the degrees in what I wanted before they finished.....Good Stuff!!

Check them out if you have more questions email me.

I did 5 years in Junior College and Cal-State Hayward but hadn't finished my degree when my funds ran out... amazingly, the recruiter called me within a few weeks !! I grew up in a Navy neighborhood and got some direction on the correct rate to choose and enlisted for 5 years...

I then reenlisted, finished my Bachelors, took a Limited Duty Officer's Commission and during the last 5 of my 15 yrs finished my Masters paid with some of my reenlistment bonus money.

I left in 1998 with my entire GI Bill ($71,000) still intact and my VA Housing Loan standing by... I now own a 2nd home and am finishing a 2nd Masters and am applying to a Doctorate Program.

It's an INDIVIDUAL choice... but I think it's a good idea for many.

I went to college after a stint in the Corps. I was older than my fellow students, wiser in the ways of the world for my age, able to set priorities, focus and far more disciplined, had I not joined a fraternity, I most like have been straight a, if not for that B in psych.
I was far more disciplined than the other students around me. All of this the Corps gave to me, as well as for paying for my degrees. Did I say degrees? I garnered two in four years, The average student takes five to get one. Any branch of service will knock some sense into you, and get your head on straight. Plus they'll pay you tuition. Semper Fi shipmate. Good luck.

If you or your parents can't pay for your education then the navy is a good choice.

Some people dont have the money to go to college and not everyone can qualify get financial aid so alot of people join the military for the benefits of signing bonus and free education.

If you join the military for a couple years they'll pay for all your college tuition and everything. I'm joining the Air Force for that reason plus you can't find job secruity like they have in the military.

GI Bill.

I think it is a wonderful thing for young people to serve their country in the Armed Forces. Then, after that, the GI Bill will help with college expenses.
