My wife and I were together 10 years before we married. It wasn't me it was HER. She had been through some bad relationships in the past and wanted to be really sure we were right for each other. I gave her the space she needed and we're going to be partners for life, I believe. Hard to say why people do the things they do, but if they seem happy, what's the problem?

Sounds like you are jealous that she has a relationship that has lasted this long. Some people don't feel the need to follow the herd and conform to what the rest of the cattle think the next right step is. There is no law or time limit that says you have to be married or pop the question by a certain time. If your "friend" is happy, you should simply keep your nose out of it and leave it alone. If she is upset because she has had some ignorant seed planted in her head by people telling her that he should have proposed by now, then she needs to get a hard hit from the reality train and be grateful for what she has before she screws up by letting outside sources attempt to manipulate her relationship with her man ---and loses him.

I've been with my significant other (a male, just so you know we could legally marry) for 20 years. We have no desire for kids, we sure love each other and we trust each other. If one of us wants to go, we would be kind enough to talk about it and move on. I hope that after 20 years we won't split. I hate to say it, but I doubt we will...we're in our 50's. I was married 2x's before not good relationships, he was married 1x before not good relationship. We're best friends, lovers and family....Marriage not needed, thank you very much.

For some people all "marriage" is is a piece of paper. Just because you are not married, doesn't mean you can't share your life with someone. Just depends on whether your colleague is happy with the situation or not. Not really your concern in my opinion, but what the hell.

Either they have agreed to not get married or he's a loser. If she's wanting to get married and he hasn't asked by now he won't marry her. Guys always know when they want to marry someone by the 2nd or 3rd year of being together. Maybe she puts up with it and is just used to it so he doesn't feel the need to ask. But regardless, if she wants to get married she should either bring it up or move on.

he has no interest or need to marry.
how would his life change?
why would he want to?
maybe there are reasons not to.
sometimes someone is getting a benefit that would stop when they remarry. or there is a tax impication. what is the point of
being married anyway?
