Included in the CD or folder installed on your MAC, there should be a tutorial. I would make use of that as well as the PHOTOSHOP FOR DUMMIES book. (I love this series! Teaches you in simple to follow steps and answers questions along the way, as well as tips and hints.)
The best way to learn something is to get in there and try different things :) (p.s always save your original photo and use a copy so that you do not 'mess up' the photo forever.

Best of luck!

The best option is to use a book. There are lots of books written to teach Photoshop. Almost all these are designed for self-learning. To learn or to use Photoshop you don't need an Internet connection. So buy a book and start learning.

All the best !!!

The best and most compleat way is to go and get Adobe PhotoShop Classroom in a Book, its about $35-45 if I remember right, it goes through projects using the different tools, for more advanced uses beyoned this there are many books and magazines designed for advanced photoshop techniques.

I recommand you to use Google Picasa to manage and edit your pictures.

Picasa is software that helps you instantly find, edit and share all the pictures on your PC. Every time you open Picasa, it automatically locates all your pictures (even ones you forgot you had) and sorts them into visual albums organized by date with folder names you will recognize. You can drag and drop to arrange your albums and make labels to create new groups. Picasa makes sure your pictures are always organized.

Picasa also makes advanced editing simple by putting one-click fixes and powerful effects at your fingertips. And Picasa makes it a snap to share your pictures ¨C you can email, print photos at home, make gift CDs, instantly share via Hello™, and even post pictures on your own blog.

free download in here, just have a try:

Ask your friends if they know how to use photoshop and ask if they can teach you.
