Ano= What
ang= the
pagalan= name
mo= your/you

and does "maganda" means beautiful..."How do you say" You are beautiful" in Tagalog ?

And why is the word "maganda..sometimes written as magandang...with an "ng".

you're beautiful is ikaw ay maganda literally (but is not preferred). maganda ka is correct also.

ng is used when the adjective is ending in a vowel (only g is added when it ends with the letter n) and is describing a noun after it. just remeber that the pattern is adjective+noun. like magandang dalaga (maganda ends in a , a vowel). when the adjective is ending in consonants except n, na is used like mataas na grado or high grade, matabang na sabaw (bland soup).

it is also used when an adverb is followed by a verb. it is affixed at the end of an adverb that ends in vowels (ony g is added when it ends with the letter n.) like matuling tumakbo (matulin means fast. it ends with n so g is added to it.

it is also used after possessive pronouns (that end in vowels- only g is added when it ends in n) directly before those nouns that they posses (do you get it?) like paborito kong libro (my favorite book- ko ends in a vowel, libro or book directly follows the possessive pronoun)

when answering these kinds of questions, just eliminate the question words and add ay+answer.

q: ano ang araw ngayon?
A: ang araw ngayon ay sabado. (without ano or what, plus ay and answer) or you can also say sabado ang araw ngayon.

what is the day today? the day today is saturday.

when is your birthday?
my birthday is tomorrow.

kailan ang kaarawan mo?
ang kaarawan ko ay bukas.

actually, you can also say ano (what) ang (the)iyong(your) pangalan (name) if you want to use the english way of saying it. te answer should be ang aking pangalan ay czarina.

think of ano ang pangalan mo as what's the name of you? i know it sounds really weird. but this might help you.

I am NOT a native speaker. Not even an advanced student.. so.. be careful with what I can say.
"Maganda ka" and "Ikaw ang maganda" both mean "you're beautiful".

When an adjective modifies a noun, you use the "-ng" marker. In the two sentences above, "maganda" is not really modifying any noun. It is the predicate of an equational sentence. So... when you have a structure like "beautiful woman", you must attach "-ng" to "maganda" to show the relationshipe between the two elemente: "magandang babae". But not all adjectives accept "-ng". They may use another particle, "na": "mabait na titser".
I hope someone better than me could come to explain it better.

You are beautiful.
Ikaw ay maganda. or
Maganda ka.

You = Ikaw / ka
Beautiful = Maganda

Ikaw ay magandang babae.
You are (a) beautiful woman.

Maganda is written with "ng" when it is followed by a noun
(e.g. babae).

Another example:

Ikaw ay mabuting kaibigan.
You are a good friend.

Maganda comes with the suffix "-ng", if it is an adjective to a noun it comes after. e.g. Magandang umaga (beautiful morning)

Maganda ka - You're beautiful
analyzed: May + ganda + ka --> have beauty you

You are beautiful = Ikaw ay maganda
I don't speak Tagalog but I'm pretty sure that's how it's said.
