My six year old cleans her room completely independently, though I often have a few "suggestions" of what she could have done better.

I have a 9 year old who still wants me to help clean her room. This is because she doesnt find the task enjoyable. I think it is a great quality that your child is displaying. I don't know if I would use this situation to define her independence but it is definitely a great trait.

I've been independant since I was like 6 months old and started to feed myself and then walk when I was 9 months. I hate accepting help from anyone. I don't know why I'm just really really independant. It's fine for her to be independant it's really good!!!!!

Let her clean the room. When she is done go in and tell her what she should have done but remember that she is only 6 so things are not going to be perfect. Also let her know that she has done a good job. Even though its not perfect.

In certain things her room is hers and she wants to personalize it . It doesn't mean that she is 100% independent, she just wants to make her room the way she likes it.

Very independent! Which is a great thing. That means your doing your job as a parent! Keep up the good work.

My 2 year old is very independent. He doesn't like the help I offer him. I guess its just a part of letting them grow up.

Most 6 year olds don't want help doing things they feel big and like they can do it and they want to impress mommy and daddy lol well when I was 6 years old I cleaned up my own messes ( if I could you know lol )

They sure seem to be!! My son has many opinions--Likes to choose his own clothes--wants his "privacy", etc...and yet he is still a little gentleman (most of the time!)...

At 6 your daughter is defintely forming preferences and opinions and as long as she is learning to express them politely and appropriately (that's the hard part at times--adults have trouble with this as well!), it is probably good that she is trying to do things on her own--if you encourage her initiative--her independent behaviors--she will grow up to be a confident person...

She is not independent persay-but she is trying to act on her own--to develop her own personality...here is something from Erikson's developmental stages...:

Infant
Trust vs Mistrust
Needs maximum comfort with minimal uncertainty
to trust himself/herself, others, and the environment

Toddler
Autonomy vs Shame and Doubt
Works to master physical environment while maintaining
self-esteem

Preschooler
Initiative vs Guilt
Begins to initiate, not imitate, activities; develops
conscience and sexual identity

School-Age Child
Industry vs Inferiority
Tries to develop a sense of self-worth by refining skills

Adolescent
Identity vs Role Confusion
Tries integrating many roles (child, sibling, student, athlete,
worker) into a self-image under role model and peer pressure

Young Adult
Intimacy vs Isolation
Learns to make personal commitment to another as
spouse, parent or partner

Middle-Age Adult
Generativity vs Stagnation
Seeks satisfaction through productivity in career, family, and
civic interests

Older Adult
Integrity vs Despair
Reviews life accomplishments, deals with loss
and preparation for death

VERY VERY independent! for me it was because I went to grade one and discovered mommy and my one teacher in kindergarten isn't the whole world! oh my gosh! I'm part of the world! (my line of thought :) )

She'll be back to you're little girl in no time, and then come the teen years when you'll wish that she actually cleaned her room. (I'm 14)
