Why would you give your cat rice? Simple cat food will do just fine, unless a vet instructed you to do so. If you're giving your cat rice for a treat, you should consider a good brand of canned cat food.

Hi Aneel...cats generally do not require rice in their diet because it expands in their digestive system which causes constipation. Therefore, it should only be offered when a cat suffers from bad boughts of diarrhoea as one of the types of cure used for loose stools symptoms. In general, cats should only be cat food because many human foods actually contain ingredients which can be toxic to cats for example such as onions or garlic which causes Heinz Body Anaemia and is fatal. There are many other human food ingredients that be just as lethal and without possibly knowing which can affect a cat's health it's safest to only feed cat food or offer treats designed for cats to prevent any accidental ingestion of harmful ingredients.

Here's a basic list of some ingredients which are toxic to cats, however it isn't complete it's just a sample of those foods we eat that can harm a pet: http://www.peteducation.com:80/article.cfm?cls=0&cat=1276&articleid=1029

Also here's more about feeding table scraps to cats and their possible dangers:

What are you doing girlfriend? Stop feeding your cat "whiskers". Dry food for dogs or cats, is the leading cause of "tooth decay". You see the animal can't "brush", LOL so the hard particles "rot" in between the teeth. Always feed your cat, wet food. and NOT from the table. Get some low ash,no name brand, cats love beef, chicken - stay away from the fish ones, only gives the cat the "runs"! Mix one spoon of rice into a daily serving and watch the little guy eat that. Stay away from "curry gravy". People food is BAD,BAD,BAD for animals. You actually cut 1/2 of the life of your pet, feeding them off the table. Remember that "rice" is BINDING! - the #1 food product you can eat following illness. Hope this info helps you out, and from now on, You eat the curry and give the cat the "plain" rice mixed with wet food. Read this e-mail out loud to your cat and set him straight now! LOL

Cats are carnivorous, and if they need roughage in the wild, they get it from eating grass. You might want to try an indoor cat food, maybe something like Cat Chow Indoor Formula or something that contains extra fiber.

Rice has no nutritional value for your cat, and if he can pass it you shouldn't be feeding it to him.
