The tumor may or not be cancerous. Her ears could be infected. Sometimes over the counter ear drops work to keep them clean. This can be caused by swimming in a pond or water getting into the ear. Sometimes you can call the local shelter and explain your situation. The vet there will, sometimes give you the medicine free of charge in lieu of dropping off the dog. Also, call your vet and also explain. They do have samples and will work with you on price.

If your dogs ears stink it could be that they are just really dirty or that she does have an ear infection. You didn't mention the age of this dog, is she old? Definitely clean her ears with Qtips and some peroxide. Not dripping peroxide, but just enough to clean them out with. I don't understand why you have the money to put her down, but not take her in to be looked at. All the vets in my area charge more for putting a dog to sleep than they do for an office visit. Is she seen by a vet regularly? Are there people in your neighborhood with animals? If she's seen by a vet regularly, call the vet and see if payments could be worked out, explain your situation. If there are people in your area with dogs, talk to them. They may know/have a vet that would be willing to work with you also. This is a very touchy subject, but without knowing the full extent of her "tumor" and not knowing her age, its harder to really give sound advice. If a no kill shelter is something you'd consider I would do a search on the internet and look through the phone book for someone in your area. Make phone calls and see what can be done in that direction.
Best of luck to you on this one.

The ears either could have an infection or even a rotting piece of grass or something like that. A tumor could be anything from a benign lump to a serious problem. My friend's Labrador Retriever once had a small growth on her belly (near the bare patch of skin) and that was removed without trouble. I highly suggest rehoming her if you cannot afford taking her to the vet. Best of luck.

I'd suggest finding a new home, personally.
Tumors can be iffy...they can be removed if benign, or she could have a malignant cancer.
Sounds like she has ear infections - those can be cleared with medication and cleaning, but you should also find out WHY she has the infection - it can be just a one time infection from environmental change, or a chronic problem due to allergies or immune system.

She needs medical attention, any way you look at it. If you cannot provide that, rehome her. Having a pet gone would definitely help you afford the baby's medical needs if IT ever gets an ear infection.

First the thing with her ears, she has an ear infection and it does need to be taken care of. My advice to you would be ask around your work or ask some of your friends see if any one would like to give a good home to her someone who wouldn't mind or has the money to take care of her. If no one can i would bring her to a shelter, I'm not sure where you live but down here they have the SPCA find a place like that where you live, and they will take care of her but she may not find a home for awhile. But talk to your vet also if she isn't going to live long and if she's only going to get worse i would put her to sleep its more humane.

Good luck

I recently had to put my 10 year old puppy to sleep because she had breast cancer. The best thing to do is put her down:-( The tumor will just continue to grow until its completely visible and touching the ground. I wish there was an alternative but there really isn't! A dog breeder told me that once they get up in age surgery is useless! I'm so sorry! Hoping for the best!

Look on the Internet for low cost vets, call shelters, they may be able to help refer someone. I don't know how old you dog is, I'm guessing she is old. I don't think it is fair to take her to a shelter if she is old. It would be very stressful for a sick and old dog and could make her more sick. Whatever you do, I would do it soon. Ear infections can lead to worse things if not treated. Not to mention they are very painful. Don't make excuses for yourself. Where there is a will there is a way!! Good luck

The tumor should be checked out by a vet but the itchy smelly ears sounds like ear mites which can be treated quite cheaply with a generous application of plain old vegetable oil.........it will drown the mites by clogging up their breathing vents
