I have been training for nearly 3 years now and i'm in pretty good shape, but for some weird reason I cant do more than 14 pull ups!
I have been doing 14 for a year and a half, and they seem extremely easy now, but for some reason i just collapse at 14, any help?

btw, whats so annoying is that I DO get better, all my friends tell me I do them like a navy seal.
its sort of: easy-easy-easy-COLLAPSE, I've tried everything, but my muscle just tightens up and i cant do it after that...

Try the pyramid thing instead of pumping out as many as possible. Do 1 stop, 2 stop, 3 stop, ..... 14 stop, 13 stop, 12 stop,.......

This will build you up and after a few weeks you will be able to get that extra one in and soon more and more. If you can't do this to 14, do it to 10 and try to work up.

Plus 14 is not too shaby. To pass military special forces you need only 18.

The pyramid thing is a very popular way to push past plateaus like that.

Not being able to get past a specific number is more of an endurance thing than anything else. Maybe you could do some strength training exercises geared towards endurance. Just work on the muscles for a while, making sure you've got the nutrients you need to grow, and then give it a try again.

We are also all limited by our genetics. But that's probably not the problem :)

Pull ups are quite hard. 14 is a pretty good number I would think, but if you want to get better, maybe start lifting weights that would work those muscles.

This website also has a few good tips...

Take some creatine with grape juice. Follow the instructions on creatine. Creatine is legal and has no side effects as long as you drink a lot of water.

Every few days push yourself to do one more. Gradually you will work yourself up.
