Good: The pittbulls are strong, sweet, and they are easily trained (as long as training is consistent!)
Bad: They get a bad rap from the media for the behaviors of the few.
Ugly: Have you ever been jumped up on by one? The slobber, the muddy foot prints, the knocking you down on your butt in a mud puddle!
I own a pest control company. I deal with all types of dogs daily. I have never had any problems with pitts, rotties, dobbies, or shepherds. I have been bitten by a toy poodle, a little evil terrier mix, and a wiener dog!
As I stated earlier today in another posting, there are literally millions of pittbulls in the US. Not including the millions of other "dangerous" breeds. There are only about 20 deaths each year related to dog attacks (not only pitts). With the large number of dogs and the small amount of deaths, it stands to reason that the breed isn't the problem, or there would be significantly more deaths!

I think that pitbulls can become a good pet, however, they are aggressive in nature and so I think it depends on how they are trained and how much time the owner is willing to spend working with this type of animal. I think it is also important for the owner or possible owner to keep in mind the keyword we are talking about here is animal. It doesn't necessarily have to be a pitbull that we are talking about as any animal will react the same they all have instincts to react to situations differently and pitbulls just happen to react a little more aggressively than other animals.

Good- excellent breed strong, aggressive, smart, loyal, playful, excellent protector and guard dog.
Bad-most people misunderstand the breed and are terrorized by the media and hear say. Some people abuse these animals to the point that they are turned in to straight killers(not by instinct but by training) These dogs that are trained to fight will not only kill other dogs and small animals but have been known to turn on their so called trainers and even small children. Let us all remember the fact that all dogs are ancestors of wolves. Domesticated and cross bred to bring us over 10,000 and rising different breeds of dogs. By relation these animals are pack animals and when brought into a home the Alpha male must be established. Thus you are either the master of your dog or the keeper of none. Once your dog becomes the Alpha male, you set yourself up for destruction. Mind you this does not mean you should abuse your dog either. Small children are easy prey for a dog. If this animal is improperly trained or paired with other dogs..they will establish the Alpha male and then form a pack to actually hunt out small children, elderly or impaired adults just as they seek out their weak or injured prey in the wild. With this in mind, it is best to treat this breed as you would a poodle or Jack Russel unless you become the victim of your own dog by mistreating it or training it to do harm. I love the the breed personally and have trained and bred many with no problems at all. The question is...what do you want your dog to be trained to do and are you going to take responsibility if things should go haywire.
The ugly------ignorant people who buy the breed without knowing exactly what they are getting. (love the dog and he will love you back....mistreat or train it to kill...it may bite the hand that feeds it, or someone else's) I have had pitbulls since the breed was out and never had a problem with any. Of course one bred by brother and sister will most certainly attack you. Anyone who breeds dogs and has experience knows that inbreeds are a no no.

Well the bad thing about pitbulls is that in some hotels you can bring your pet unless they are pitbulls. The good thing about having a pitbull is that they can protect you if you need protection. Hope that helped!

With the proper training and socialization a pitbull will be the best behaved and friendly dog you've ever owned. I've had a lot of experience with pitts at my hospital and I prefer them over most toy breeds. I was bit by a West Highland Terrier and not one of the pitts I've been around has ever tried to bite me. The people who hate them are people with closed minds and ignorant beliefs. I hope this helps

The breed in general got a bad rap. My cousin lived next to pitt owners. They said she was gentle friendly and wont bite her own fleas. For some reason the dog jumped the fence and severly mauled his 4 yr old daughter. My church pastor had one and it seemed to be a good pet. I like other breeds personally I think pitts r too common.

I am tired of people puttin all the blam on the breed. 1st it wa rotts, and pichers. now "pitts", me and my b/f owned a male he was great with my shih tzus and kids and strangers. thats the good. the bad is thier rep, because of bad owner. the ugly is how many are put down do to bad owners, the misundertanding of the breed, how many are in shelters.

A Pit Bull is a dog that can be made! It is what you teach it to be. I can be gentle or ferocious. However, it is a territorial animal. It protects it's territory and there is little you can do to change this behavior.ie, the door, the yard, a certain room, you, your children, your parents etc...and remember that you must let him know that you are entering his territory to keep the peace! lol

Ok pittbulls are not bad pets it is just the way you train them to be just like any other pet. They get a bad name from people training them to fight, to tell you the truth my pittbull is the best dog ive ever had. Ok and the myth about looking them in the eyes is faulse. and they are not aggressive by nature they are just like any other dog. Don't Beileve a Word the person above me says.

okay first off these dogs were bred for fighting not being pets . they have animal agressive genes and human agressive genes. they may be recessive gene but they can pop at any time . they are still animals and have animal instincts no matter how gentle you raise them . are you willing to take the chance with your child or children ? something that can tear off a face ,arm or leg ? not me never .
