I like them in between. I have a basset hound that is pretty good size, but she *thinks* she's a lap dog. I don't like small dogs because they yap to much and they are always under foot. I don't like giant dogs because I feel crowded and once again, they are always under foot.

I hope you READ my response! First of all Lindsay, you should make a list of all the "items" required to own, feed, take care of,house/apt/yard/no yard/your working hours/social life/etc,etc. You see, I LOVE ALL animals, dogs, cats, birds, horses, etc, etc! But what you need to keep in mind is that a "dog", no matter the size, will have "specific" requirements. Take a good look at your lifestyle, the time you have to devote to the dog's care, the money it will cost (1 small dog,= $600/year for food alone). So before you choose a "pet", remember he/she is for "life", a good 15-20 years of your life, so choose wisely and informatively. See you local Humane Society, they have all the information you need to make the appropriate choice and a "list" of recommended "breeders". Good Luck and enjoy all the "kisses" you will soon be getting, wet or not! LOL

although laps are cuter! by far they seem to be more high maintence. Large dogs are not so needy 24 hrs a day. so larger ones at this time in my life. when i can slow down and be a more attentive Mom i will get a lap dog.

I prefer big dogs, i have a german shorthaired pointer, a weimaraner, and a gsp/black lab mix. They are never "underfoot" often, because most large dogs, if trained to be so, are pretty calm when indoors. You really can't "trip" over them, even when they are in the room with you unexpectedly. I was bitten in the face at 2 years old by my neighbor's dachsund and have since just never liked small dogs. Smaller dogs are just too hyper for my liking and if I wanted a stuffed animal that shouldn't get dirty I would hit toys R us. They are cute to look at, but just not a preference for me.

I love dogs of all shapes, sizes, and colours!

For me there is no 'perfect dog' because each and every size and breed of dog has a unique personality. Lap dogs are gorgeous and willl snuggle against you for hours, and it sthrilling to jog with a huge dog or playing frisbee with them. I think that the most important aspect of a dog is how much love and enjoyment they give you, nothing else, not even size. Great Dane or chihuahua I love themm all just the same.

I'm partial to small lap dogs. I have 3 chihuhuas and a toy poodle and they are just the right size to pick up and throw in the car when it comes time to go to the vet. And if any of them have an accident--it's the size of a tootsie roll, not a cow chip. Know what I mean? Lol.

I personally have both, but I enjoy my shih tzu most, they are low maintanace, smaller messes, and you can cuddle with them in bed, where as my lab, she has too much energy for cuddling, she make huge messes, and she cant fit in my bed. do alot of research on a breed before you make a decition, because my boyfriend, baught a fox terrier before he new anything about them and they have a high energy level and they shed sooooo bad. so just because a dog is small, doesnt mean it is a great lap dog.

I like them big. Shepards, labs, retrievers. I grew up in a family that owned these breeds, so that may be why. However, I just find them more cuddly and fun to play with. They get in your lap and it is comical! They seem to be calmer and have more personality.
Still, a friend of mine owns a Chihuahua and he is the cutest thing to me, has a great personality (he's quite comical) most of the time, but just yaps and yaps around strangers which is annoying!
I like the look of terriers, like the Jack Russels, but I still prefer bigger dogs.

I guess you can tell by my name, which I prefer! I like all dogs, but I prefer the large breeds because they tend to be laidback, calm and easygoing. I detest yappy hyper dogs with no training.

Naturally, you have more expense with giant breeds. But they are convinced they are lap dogs too!
