How can I combine them to make something that I'd actually eat for lunch. I don't won't to make some nasty random concoction, not while I'm this hungry.

. . .And I can't leave my house for anything better. . .

Here is what I would do -

Heat the oven to 350 - spray non-stick spray on a cooking sheet - put the salmon skin side down if there is one - if not, place the less attractive side down - if you want to salt/pepper it, go ahead - I find that salting fish can sometimes make it tast too salty -

Meanwhiole, drain the oranges - reserve the juice - put 1/2 juice in a saute pan with 1-2 tbsp honey, 1 clove garlic and/or onion (both chopped small). Here is where you could get creative - do it to your tastes - I love garlic and put it in anything I can - if YOU dont like it, exclude it. This will turn into a glaze - remember not to cook it too long or on too high of a heat - this will make the sugar become hard. Use a spoon or a brush to brush as a glaze over the salmon on the sheet - DO NOT USE ALL THE GLAZE - you will be using this as more of a sauce.

Place salmon in the oven for 8-10 minutes. Meanwhile, add the oranges to the remaining glaze along w/ rest of the juice. Heat over med-low until the salmon is completed.

Make the rice the way the directions say - put salmon over rice with the sauce over it all.

Marinate the salmon in the mandarin juice, Longer the better. Try to season the water for the rice (don"t know what you have or like- suggest chcken broth & curry).Cut up the mandarin & add to rice. Grill the salmon if possible. Put on the bed of rice.

try this
ASIAN ROLL UPS
Serves 4

1 (10 ounce) can salmon, drained and flaked
1 (7 ounce) can Mandarin oranges
1/3 cup finely chopped green onions
1 1/2 tablespoons peanut butter
1/8 cup low-sodium soy sauce plus 1 tablespoon, divided use
1/2 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 to 2 cloves garlic, pressed
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
4 whole wheat tortillas
1/2 tablespoon rice vinegar

Drain oranges and reserve 2 tablespoons liquid. Chop enough oranges to equal 1/2 cup and reserve the remaining oranges for a tossed green salad (which you could have on the side).

Place the salmon in a medium bowl. Add green onions, peanut butter, 1 tablespoon of the soy sauce, lemon juice, garlic and mix well. Spoon a portion of the salmon filling in each tortilla and wrap it up and serve.

In a small bowl, combine remaining 1/4 cup soy sauce, reserved mandarin orange liquid and vinegar; mix well to be served as a dipping sauce.

Cook the salmon, make the rice fresh by microwaving it, and maybe have the mandarin oranges for dessert. That's what I like for my lunch.

I would use the oranges, vinegar, sugar, salt & pepper some oil and steam or poach the fish in it. You know like a sweet and sour kinda thing & then prepare the rice as directed, and eat it with your sweet & sour mandarin fish.

do you have fresh cream? an onion?

if yes, just fry the onion till soft, but not brown, add the salmon, boil the rice, when the rice is ready, add the cream. if you have other sea food you can add them.

eat the Mandarins alone
