There are two ways to do the splits. First you need to stretch and warm up your muscles. The first and easiest form of the split, also most common, is what I call the cheerleader splits. One leg has the the foot pointing forward just like in a normal standing position. The other foot is pointed out to the side of the body. You lead off by sliding the side pointed foot out. Do not go down further than your muscles can handle as you can tear them. The next type of splits, my favorite, and more difficult are what I call Chinese leg splits. It is where you leave both feet pointed forward in a natural standing stance. You simultaneously lead out with both feet sliding out to the side of you. Go until your bottom is sitting on the floor with both legs completely extended to the sides of you. Do not do this unless you are limber and able. I am double jointed, actually is called hyper flexible, but please stretch good first.

Everyday, stretch your legs by sitting with your legs straight while watching TV or whatever...and eventually you'll be able to complete a split

practice each day, for atleast 2 minutes everyday, trust me it will work, the first 30 seconds get into a conftorble position, next 30 seconds push really hard and pick your hands off the ground the next 30 seconds relax again, and the last 30 seconds don't push down but slowly pick up your arms, and it should go down a little farther, but you have to be consistant and do it like 4 times a week. I miss gymnastics... level 7..:(

Very carefully, it is not that hard but the trick is to do some streching before you try it.
