Uyghurs are a Turkic population from Central Asia. They make up the majority of the population of the Xinjiang Autonomous Province (Northwestern China) (Capital: Urumqi, pronounce: Urumchi). Uyghurs are to be found also in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan and they have huge diasporas in the U.S., Germany and Turkey. In some sources, the Uyghur language is listed as having 7 million speakers, but I think that's an understatement.
