It's pretty much the same beliefs. The only difference is that you have to go through the sacraments to be saved, and she just has to believe in God, and by His Grace alone, she'll be saved. The only way this could create an issue is if you plan to marry her, or have children. One of the Catholic sacraments is marrying in a Catholic church. You'll go to Hell if you don't marry her in one, and she'll have to convert, in most cases. Some Catholic churches don't require your spouse to convert.

As for babies, baptism is a sacrament to be done right after birth, and is necessary for Catholics. However, most born-again Christians believe that baptism is a conscious choice that must be made stating you accept Christ. Babies obviously cannot make this choice. They feel that Christ recognizes this and children under the age of 8-12 would automatically be saved if they die young. But, should make that choice to be baptized once they reach that age.

You sound young anyway... Have fun being in love and don't worry about the serious stuff until the time comes... Wait until you are 30 to marry; and be sure she's that age too.

As a minister who has counseled couples in this matter before.....

What is important is that you both share a unity in Jesus Christ. Do you both think the same way about Jesus? Do you both share the same idea of who He is?

Christianity is based on faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for the salvation of mankind. Jesus was the promised messiah and king prophesied about throughout the Old Testament and the New Testament is the explaination and revelation of His coming and that He will come again.

We put our faith in Jesus Christ that He died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead to cover our sins forever and that we might also overcome sin and death. He will forgive us for our sins and bring us into new life in Christ. We leave our old life of sin behind and walk on in newness of life in Christ.

John 14.6 "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father except by me."

Romans 10.9-11 "9 If you use your mouth to say, "Jesus is Lord," and if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved. 10 We believe with our hearts, and so we are made right with God. And we use our mouths to say that we believe, and so we are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be disappointed."

If you are both on the same page about this, then i say take another step forward.
The next step would be to see if each other can deal with the stipulations put on you by each other part of your religion. Roman Catholics have stipulations. Whatever church she is from I'm sure have their own ideas. If you can still hold on to each other in spite of those things then I'd say things look very bright for your future.

Hope that helps.

It really shouldn't make a difference in a relationship. What matters most is how you treat each other and that the feelings are true. I know couples who are happily married, and practice different religions. I'll give you an example, one of my friend's parents have been married for many, many years. The father is Jewish, and the mother is Muslim.

That's truly amazing.

Only if you plan to marry and have children. Before you make that decision be sure that you are in agreement about how you will raise the children, where they will attend church as so on. You really should discuss all this before you become too serous.

For the well-being of the children you have to be able to be unified and consistent.

As long as you both realize that a marriage between the two of you could create some conflict and go ahead and resolve them then I do not think it should be an issue.

I'm a pot-smoking bisexual Gypsy Witch who married a Baptist pastor's daughter. No, religion doesnt matter if you're in love.

As long as you understand that inter-faith relationships/households aren't always easy.

*edit*
HOW I got her dad's blessing I'll never know. But I did. He knew full well I'm a Natural Witch, and accepted me fully into his family. He's a pastor. Enough said.

Your still both Christians. Its the christian sects that your talking about. That's like saying a baptist cant be in love with a Methodist. That's only true if one person was Muslim and one person was Christian. Catholic, Methodist, Baptist, Independent, Wesleyan, etc. those are all different sects of the Christian religion. As long as you have christ it is a good relationship.

No it is being unequally yoked and the Bible speaks against it. Unless you are born again also you probably should avoid marriage. She is born from above and you are spiritually dead. She'll grieve for your conversion, but it rests both in God's timing in your life and your response to being convicted of your sins against a Holy Perfect God.

I think you guys have plenty to agree about. When you have drastically different religions, and want the other to "convert", problems arise, and it is usually not a very good idea, setting yourself up to fail.

To me religion matters a lot in a relasionship. I would never date anyone who had a different religion than me. but if you are not serious about religions then keep dating.
