First, make sure you're getting enough fluids so you don't get dehydrated. Try weak tea or flat 7up--NO OJ! Drink it at room temperature and only take small sips. Gulping it or drinking it too cold may cause it to come right back up. If you feel hungry, try a few animal crackers or other plain crackers, only a few at a time.

If all that stays down after 12 hours, you can have plain toast, clear broth, more crackers. Keep up on your fluids. After 12 hours of that without vomiting or diarrhea, you can go back on solids, but keep it very bland and plain. White rice, plain chicken breast, applesauce, plain jello, chicken noodle soup, that kind of thing, and continue the fluids. Koolaid works too. No fiber, dairy or acidic foods (OJ, tomatoes) until you're sure your insides are "solid" again, usually a day or two.

This is a very tiresome diet, but I know from experience it works. If you go back on regular food too soon, you're risking a relapse. Get enough rest too, because as I'm sure you know, stomach flu really takes its toll. Take care of yourself and feel better.

you can't treat the stomach flu. It's a virus that must run its course. All you can do is wait it out. Be aware, tho, that it's usually a 24-48 bug. If it lasts longer than that, it's probably not the stomach flu but something else.

i have gotten the stomach flu many times, and itfeels aweful. there are 2 things you can do to feel better:

1. ask your doctor about a medicine called fenargon (I THINK). it is cream that prevents nausea.

2. don't eat anything. even if you take fenargon, eating will make you throw up. it is ok to skip eating for a day, but make sure you still drink water even if it makes you throw up.

PSD i am not sure what i got was the stomach flu, so if it is not, jjust ignore me :0.
