A spider bit me yesterday. It hurts like hell. It is red and puffy. The redenss is about an inch all the way around the bite and it feels like there is a hard knot under the bite. I can't afford to go to the doctor right now. Any suggestions? I am soaking it in ebsom salt and putting neosporin and meat tenderizer on it (webmd said that may help). But I am in serious pain.

Don't listen to the people about it being a black widow. If it were a black widow (according to the information that it bit you yesterday) you would have other (very severe) symptoms such as severe muscle pain and cramping, possibly even headache and dizziness.

If it is a brown recluse (as some people have said) you NEED to go to the doctor. Get friends or family to pay your bills. Find a clinic. Just find a way. Brown recluse bites can be pretty nasty, as they can cause the surrounding tissue to become gangrenous (that happened to my grandmother), and you'll be pretty sick. My mother said you can tell if it was a brown recluse bite if it has a grey or black center, but I do not know if that is true.

I don't know much about other spiders, but my guess is if it wasn't a black widow or a brown recluse it was probably a less poisonous spider, so you don't really need to see a doctor, and you can't do much more than you are doing now.

Did you save the spider and put it in a bottle. It could have been a brown recluse. If it was, you cannot afford NOT to go to the doctor. Do you have a free clinic in your town? If not go to the emergency room. Spider bites are dangerous. Watch for red streaks going from the site of the bite. See any, go Doctor, Stat.

If the skin at the bite site begins to turn dark purple or black in color and you see a reddish "X" through the bite, you NEED to go to the doctor. This means you've been bitten by a brown recluse and unless treated quickly with steroids, the venom from the spider will cause the surrounding tissue to die and a nasty, painful, slow-healing open wound will result.

Where the hell did the spider bite you?! Sheesh, I have gotten spider bites before but not to that severity. I think you might be having an allergic reaction. Although you don't have the money for the doctor, if it continues to hurt as much as it does and be red and puffy you should really go to the doctors.

Yeah my sister got bit by a spider not to long ago and she couldn't afford to go to the doctor. hers was hard and red and sometimes she would fell wierd and get goose bumps around the area, and she even ran fever then red lines started to show, so finally i took her to the doctor. The doctor said alot of people get these bites and he didn't do anything, we were pissed that we paid for the visit for him to tell us that. So anyways we did the epson salt and the next day or so it started to look better. But if it gets any worse I would go to your doctor,

Are you sure this was a spider and not a developing boil (staph infection)? If you did see a spider and it bit you, then you need to see a doctor. If it's what I think it is, then it'll make an ulcer and continue to get bigger and bigger. The best best is for you to see a doctor anyway. It'll be cheaper now to see him than later. Best of luck to you.
