To the Ancient Celts, everything happened in three's...

They ordered their whole world around this number, and thought everything that mattered came in three's. It's about as 'Pagan' as you can get, since most of modern Witchcraft, Druidry, and Paganism draws from these Celtic practices.

It is still known today as a 'magic number'..... but few realize why any more...

Three is traditionally a magic number and some feel that things happen in threes. If two people you care about die, it is not a good thing to know you at the moment.

For instance, when I hear of a celebrity who's died, I wonder who else is going to die soon because two others tend to die in a short time as well.
