Thie actually depends upon the age(s) of the child(ren). It also depends upon your age and maturity.
You could offer your babysitting services (remember to do things the way the parents want them done)
Plan birthday parties (again, nothing parents wouldn't do themselves)
Of course bring gifts (making sure the parents approve of them, and that the child doesn't already have the particular gift already)
Set up a college fund account for the child(ren)--the type that anyone can add money to on birthdays/holidays
Take the children to the park/playground
Take him/her/them shopping
It's so important that you always make the plans with the parents ahead of time--not just show up unexpectedly. Equally important, that you don't give the child anything the parents would disapprove of. Remember that it is their child--and you are just there to see the child--and offer to help in any way the parents need you to.

I don't think there's such a thing as a pushy auntie (unless you dictate to them or their parents - unlikely) Any parent would be thrilled that you want to get to know their offspring.
Give thoughtful presents, little & often - think of the sort of things you would've liked, such as little bags & beads. My favourite auntie was someone who gave me little treats (and I'm talking here about things like fancy fruit juice.) Write or see them often and ask them to draw & send pictures to you. Later on, take him/her on treats (tea at the Ritz) to give mum & dad a break. In other words, develop a relationship with them and be interested in their achievements and interests. And remember them in your will!!!

you don't have to be pushy to get to know your neice and nephew...just be yourself...be as you normally are....they'll love you anyway...but pushy is not the right way to get to know them.....be their friend...me and my 2 nephews get on like a house on fire...i'm considered the favorite aunt...they love coming here for visits...so just be you, you'll have fun
