The trouble with having greasy hair is you want to wash it often to get rid of the grease....but the more you wash it, the more grease there will be, because your system will pump out more grease as a reaction to your hair being stripped of grease.
I found a solution that works. Instead of using shampoo for greasy hair - shampoo that can be relatively strong - try using baby shampoo. It is very mild and will remove the grease without your scalp 'overreacting' and making your hair even more greasy. Worked for me!
Also, if you use conditioner, then only use a tiny bit, and apply it to the ends of your hair only, not the scalp.
Good luck! x
Edit: several people have mentioned talc to absorb the grease. This does work, but it reminds me of a product which is easier to use than talc - it's called Batiste Dry Shampoo. It's basically a kind of spray powder in a can which you spray onto your hair (mainly the roots) then rub in a bit, and brush out.
I use it between washes to refresh my hair and it works brilliantly. Boots sell it, so do larger branches of Sainsbury's - if you want to buy it online, go to Boots' website at:
http://www.boots.com/guidedsearch/newsearch.jsp?searchArea=1&searchTerm=batiste&Go.x=32&Go.y=8&uri=%2Fonlineexperience%2Fflexible_template_2006_publish.jsp&classificationId=1043920&contentId=&articleId=&N=0&Ntk=all&Nty=1
It's only £1.99 a can and the Boots website is a trustworthy one to use.

Use talkon powder on the roots. Try to avoid daily washing. The sebaceous glands are overstimulated, secreting more grease onto the hair. This creates a vicious circle where the more you wash is the greasier it becomes.
Another problem with regular washing is that although the roots are greasy the rest of your hair is stripped of oil and the ends become dry and brittle. Use a mild ph-balanced shampoo and wash hair without rubbing the scalp too much. Only apply conditioner to the mid and ends rather than at the roots.
Watch your diet. Oily and fatty foods can contribute to greasy skin and scalp. Best of all is to use those days when you're at home to give your hair a rest from daily washing. Try using a children's shampoo as these are often mild enough for greasy hair. Also try not to touch it or add any excess products as that shall amke it worse!
Hope i helped xxx

wash ur hair daily with a shampoo formulated to treat oily hair. dont brush ur hair too much or run ur hands threw ur hair as the oil off ur hands will soon make ur hair greasy. also try to keep off greasy foods, ur diet will determind how ur hair is. if this doesnt work i'd say go see ur doctor as u might have a scalp problem, sometimes the sweat glands in ur scalp become clogged and causes greasy hair, and is soon treated easierly.

First shampoo your hair for 4-6 minutes you don't need a fancy shampoo. Something like: Head&Shoulders, Herbal Essence, Suave, Pentane. After you have done that use a great conditioner and rube it all over your hair. Once you have finished brush out the tangles and blow dry it. Once it's blow dryed use a strightening iron and strighten your hair. If this doesn't work then you might need special hari treatment.

For long time use, I'm not sure. But if you have some last minute outing and don't have enough time to shower, just spritz on some hairspray. The alcohol in it will kill the oil.
