Well, ask your vet first. He/she may have some good ideas.

Check out books from the library on how to train dogs.

Stick to a set of rules: no jumping on the tables, no eating furniture, come when the dog is called, etc. If you are lenient, the dog will get mixed messages and become confused. When your dog does something that is good, give him (or is it a her?) a treat. When he does something wrong, don't give him a treat. For example, if you call your dog and he comes to you. Give him a treat. If this happens more and more, the dog will associate behaving good to treats. If he behaves badly, try squirting him with water. Not in his eyes or face or anything. It will associate being bad to getting water squirted on him. It will take time and patience, but it will work eventually. This also works for teaching dogs tricks.

Make that dog yur shaddow. This gives you plenty of time to train and gives the dog time to understand exactly what you want.
Plus it keeps the lab puppy 1/2 occupied so that you don't come home to a half eaten couch, table, chairs, curtains, and that one shoe that feels a little wet but for some reason has no match.

Thats a cool dog though. My Buddy had one. He called him Rebel. That dog was a big Sissy. It ran from all Cats.

Just takes time. The more time the better the results. Being a pup use up some of his energy before trying to teach.
