I have visted a couple of psychologists and have been very dissappointed. They were very distant and clinincal. How can I find a psychologist that would have a little more care, when I don't have any referals to go by?

Is there a "Public Referal System" somewhere, where patients can rate and comment on their psychologist?

I'm open to any other opinons you can offer!

Thanks for your time.

I've experienced this. It seems to be a common problem. A lot of psychologists appear to have given into the notion that this clinical, distant disposition is the most 'professional' means of getting the job done. Unfortunately not many clients respond well to this. A lot of persons are simply searching for an empathetic ear that can successfully help them to overcome their difficulties.

I haven't found any sites like the one your searching for. Perhaps you could try visiting the American Psychological Association (APA). You might be able to find some reliable recommendations there.

Good luck :).

Hello,
Just keep checking these people out. There are good ones and bad ones. Find one that you are comfortable with.
There is a reason why these people choose this profession. Many of these people have there own problems. Lord knows we (my family has mental health needs) have been through our share of them!

If you can find someone who is open and will talk to you about a good one within your area of course. Mental Health is still one of those hush hush topics out there.
As one lady in this little town said to me before "oh you are the lady with the crazy kids". Nice hu? Youngest child has a form of autism, my other kids have there problems as well...

Good luck

A good psychologist will give you some kind of "homework" at the end of every session.

Call the Psych's office and ask if the doctor is Christian.

Bitterness, fear, anxiety, anger, self-hatred, rejection are spiritual roots to mental health. Sometimes a church counselor is better than any Psychiatrist out there.

My daughter suffered with anxiety disorder, but now she is fine. The Lord can do anything.
