LET YOUR CHILD DATE WHEN THEY'RE 15. I think 13 is still too young, 14 you are beginning to kind of know what you want. I would allow my kid to date at age 15. 16 is a year too late. It's really humiliating to tell someone that you're parents can't date them til your 16, so 16 is not okay. 15 is the way to go that way you are not being too lenient or too strict, but just right. I'm 16 and I'm not even thinking about having a boyfriend right now, because my first priority is school. By all means your child can date at 15 as long as if doesn't interfere with performance in school. Talk to your kids and make sure that they're not thinking about sex. Also remind tell that they have the right to say no. You want to demonstrate to your child that you trust them; remind them of that trust, and most likely they not break it. Make sure they know that you are always available for them to talk to you about anything, and you won't be judgmental.

As far as crushes probably around 13 or so. As far as boyfriends/girlfriends 16. Kids are so vunerable and believe that they have fallen in love etc, so young when in fact they are just learning about relationships and living through these relationships. As well there are numerous temptations to many to mention to kids today and many believe that they have to become active sexually so early in order to fit in or be loved. Lots of them do so and are not ready at that age and do not think of possible long term consequences.

I would say about 14 or so as long as they are together in groups of friends not just them. I think it help them to grow. One serious relationship when your older that goes bad is not good. Young adults should learn there are more fish in the sea. You need to find someone who is nice, and will treat you good.

Plus a lot of these kids are breaking up and going out with someone new everyother day. Just keep and eye on everything they are doing.

My husband says 35 LOL (we have a 14 year old daughter) He is 32, and I am 34. He does not even like her talking about boys.

In our family I set the standards early on.....No boyfriends or girlfriends till at least 16 years old. You have to have time to be a kid!

Dating is supposed to be to start knowing who you wish to choose as a companion for life. Any younger is way too young to think about that stuff. By 16 you could begin thinking what kind of person you wish to be with; what qualities you admire or don't admire in a person of the opposite sex.

We also start with bringing your date to the house to meet Mom and Dad who usually have plenty of questions!

We all try to wait for "Sweet 16," but the kids usually start their own underground dating as early as the age of 10.

My middle daughter actually had a date (when she was about nine) to meet a boy and his mom at the convenience store, where he bought her the candy of her choice.

Try to encourage group dating to places like skating, movies, pizza places, the mall, bowling, etc. These are places where the parents can drive the children--and find them easily. If they are particularly young--make the group dating rule "daytime only."

I have 5 children and the rule in my house is that they can start dating in high school as long as their grades are kept up.My oldest is 14 and going into high school he is very excited about the possibilty of having a girlfiend and makes sure his grades are kept up and he does all his responsiblities at home.I have always been open with them and trusting as they are in me.

Even the young ones in grade school, form attachments. They will hang out together, call each other on the phone. That's okay,

Dating, or being serious, should wait till mid teens. Even then it should start with group dates or chaperoned parties.
