My husband pours his tea into a second cup which cools his tea down. This would work for coffee also. The idea of using ice would work but the flavour would be different.

I put the non cutting end of a knife into the hot drink. It is amazing how quickly the heat will transfer to the knife. (When you take it out, it is really hot!) If you need the drink to be even cooler, add another knife or cool off the knife and put it back in.

I use a knife because it is usually the thickest metal object that is handy in a kitchen.

The advantage is that you are not watering down the drink!!

I have gone to the Art Institute of New York, as a culinary major to become a chef. If you want to cool of anything quickly without diluting it, place your hot object in a container of ice water. Making sure that the hot item is in a non-breakable container when placing in the ice water. Many chef put their items in ice water to stop the cooking process. This one of the basic knowledge you need in cooking.

in coffee and tea you can put some milk
in coffee you can put some vanilla icecream in it, tastes good too
icecubes work very good but that waters it down
pooring it back and forth in a bigger cup cools it off quick
