There are many variations to the surname you give. I know a family with a certain surname and asked how it became that way. They were from the Ukrain. When the family traveled to America the way Amerians registering people entering the US heard the name is how it was writen down. This family (sorry I can not remember the exact Russian pronunciation) This families surname is now kinda to me a household name in a certain part of the US.
