It makes no difference if the signals are analog or digital. In order to view one channel and record another one you need to have TWO tuners that are able to capture those signals

two Tuners in a set-top box
TV + Set-top box
Set-top + DVR
etc.

If you are using freeview you would need either 2 digiboxes (One for the TV, one for the video). You can also get dvd recorders and PVRs that can record freeview.

If you have sky the options would be sky+ which can record channels while you watch others. The other option would be to pay £10pm for sky multiroom and use the second subscription to record while watching on the first.

Basically as analogue is being turned off it wouldn't be worthwhile buying anything that only uses analogue (TV, video recorder) unless it was really cheap.

You will need to have 2 digi boxes or 1 box and a TV that had a built in digi box. I got a new TV with built in digi box thinking that would be able to watch one side while recording another but nope had to have a separate box connected

An easy easy way to do it would be to buy a digital dvd recorder. With one of these you can store the digital channels in it, enabling you to watch one and record another.
