I have kids and let me tell you what I think from life experience. You use the word "controlling" so I am assuming you are the child in this case. Your parents aren't what you call "controlling." Your parents love you and want what is best for you. I know a lady that claims to love her kids but she lets her 12 year old do whatever she wants. She just let her 12 year old daughter spend New Years eve night at her boyfriends house. I was totally left breathless when I heard this. I told this lady apparently you don't care if your daughter ends up pregnant or with a STD. To me parents who act this way means they could care less what happens to their kids. I know kids would think it would be cool to have a parent let them do whatever they want but that isn't what is good for them is it? You wonder why the teen pregnancy rate is so high? Well not a hard question to answer, to many parents are making the bad decision to "not" controll their kids. I am 32 now and I used the words strict and controlling when I was a teenager but now looking back my parents loved me and wanted the best for me. I also have kids now that tell me the same thing I'm to strict and controlling. I just tell my kids that means I love them.

Think about it, one of these days you won't have parents any more and you'll do most anything to have them back. If you think they are over controlling then they are just trying to keep you safe and they love you very much. If they didn't care, then they don't care that much about you or what could happen to you.

Go for the over controlling, at least you know there's a lot of love there!

Over controling. It shows that they love and care for you! I am a controling parent. And the rules are the rules and there is no going around them.

More controlling than not.

I am a kind of easy going parent. My daughter is 14, and she can do pretty much what she wants, but with that said she is a very good kid. I was very strict with her when she was little, and through most of her growing up years. Now she knows the rules, and is expected to follow them. The one BIG rule is.... she can do whatever she wants (that 14 year olds should be doing) as long as she is doing what she is saposded to be doing. (room clean, cat litter, vac, ect...) so she has room to grow, and resposability.

All her friends think she has it made, but they dont realize that I dont have to be yelling at her to do stuff because she knows if its not done she is NOT going to do what ever every one else is doing. Teach them young, and it makes for a much better teen life!!!!

Id like to have lenient parents so they still have that control over me but i still have my space and can learn by my mistakes rather than they wrap me up in cotton wool and when i go into the real world itd be scary as i have nothing to fall back on as im not used to the real world, just being controlled

well if you had parents who could care less, then you would end up cooking your own dinner, being responsible for your own lunch money and such. and youd have to buy your own cloths, you wouldnt get presents for christmas, your bed would probaly be the floor with your clothes as blankets, youd have to buy your own stuff for school, the list goes on. and hey, wasnt this on a fairly odd parents episode?

over - controlling. mine were. i realized later in life it was because they cared about me. the friends i had whose parents let them do anything at all, only proved that they didn't give a darn what happened to their kids or how they turned out.
