Therapy, therapy and more therapy! I have been in therapy for 7 years now diagnosed with lots of different things. And finally Bipolar Disorder. I am also stabilized. I currently take Effexor xr and lamictal. (Dif Meds for dif people) For so long I thought therapy as a waste of time and couldn't see myself improving. Not that I didn't listen or get anything out of it.
Thoughts just like emotions can be part of an ongoing cycle. One thing I learned in therapy that has stuck with me was when a counselor told me her definition of insanity.
Insanity is doing the same things over and over again YET each time expecting different results.
You Have To Be Willing To Do Something Different!
It may sound funny but actually think about what you are thinking and try to replace those dark thoughts with a positive one or one with hopeful reality. I believe it to be human nature to resist change. We like what we are comfortable with, and what we are use to. Just like someone who is verbally or physicallyabused gripes about what he/she is going through (no offence intended), yet continue to stay along for the ride. They have learned to adapt to this way of life or thinking. We fear what we do not know. Thoughts are the same, I believe. From my experience I was so use to my dark thoughts that I thought of this as "Just the way it is" or "It just goes with the territory". . I didn't realize the power and control I actually had over my own mind.
YES, medication definately works and is imencly helpful. But without self-talk and re-doing what has been done (so-to-speak), you will continue goin' round that same ol' mountain. Time and time again. It takes work.... Hard work that sometimes isn't fun at all. But the time and effort you put forth will greatly pay off in the end. I really hope this helps. Blessings... Thanks be to God!

I also have bipolar disorder and said to say still have some thoughts. The first thing I would say is talk to your doctor tell them what your thoughts are and how much they are happening. Also tell him/her how great you fell and how your moods are.
Its my personal experience that having the up and downs suck. But having thoughts for me is much worse.
I have been told by doctors that dealing with any mental illness it is 40% medication and 40% therapy. The rest is up to you. So know matter how much you try and what your doctors do you might still have some problems.
Try doing other things to help yourself. Like making sure that you are eating right and exercising right. Get enough sleep and make sure you don't miss your meds.
Good Luck!

I too am living with bi-polar disorder, and have struggled with the symptoms of this disorder for 20 years, I'm sorry to say that no medicine I have tried has been able to alleviate all symptoms. There is no cure for this disorder and the treatment for it is different for everyone. The only thing I can recommend is to stay strong, and surround yourself with positive people and situations. Try to stay as busy as possible, I keep a daily journal to express my depressive thoughts in, that seems to help me not to discuss them at inappropriate times, with people who may not understand. Good Luck
