Isn't that what dogs are for?

My Lab accidentally snarfed a chunk of hot potato that had fallen from the BBQ. She immediately dropped it.
She wanted it soooo bad but knew it would "bite" back.

It depends on the floor. If its clean and dry, sure. If not, no.

I don't have to worry with my dogs to much. My bigger one has a sensitive stomach but he won't eat anything that upsets it or anything that is not food. He also won't eat anything that is not dropped by me, if its not something he's had before he waits for me to say it's OK. He's been trained that way. The little one will eat anything and everything, food or not. He's only 7 months, we're still working on teaching him to know better. Luckily he's slow.

My dogs do not sit within 6' of my dinning room table. I think its rude and unacceptable. These drops normally happen in the kitchen when the food is being cooked. Which is funny because the counters are low and if my bigger one just wanted people food, he's tall enough to just take it off the counter.

If it were in somebody elses house, no. Not unless I knew what they mopped their floor with and if they rinsed it after. I don't want my dogs sick with poisons from bleach or Comet you know.

If it were on the ground outside, on the grass where things are more natural (no pesticides, etc) absoultely. That is the dinning table of wild animals. If it were on payment, nope.

As a side note, I work in a pet store and I usually feed the dogs off the floor in the morning. I clean and dry the floor first. Then I spread the food around everywhere in a large area. It keeps the dogs who eat like they've never seen food before slowed down and submissive dogs still get enough food. Also, there are never fights this way. The Vet says it fine.

Our dogs sit under our table waiting for a piece of food to fall........lol There is no way that we could get it before they do. They tend to want to go after anything that hits the floor with the same passion. We have to really watch so they don't get anything really bad. Our dogs have food in front of them all the time so they are not starved at all.

most of the time if i give my dog food i make them work for it. sitting, laying down, rolling over, ect..
if i drop food i will quickly pick it up and do the same. this way we both get something out of it.
And i dont let my dogs in the dining area when we are eating.
And besides if you drop something the dog shouldnt have like bones they wont be rite there so quick to grab it up.

No it is better to pick it up and give it to him/her in her bowl. If you let the dog just eat it, it will begin to feel it can eat anything that you are not eating at the time. Don't be surprised if you set your plate down, and the dog takes what it wants if you continue to let it do this.

no.
what if the food was actually a bottle of pills accidently dropped on the floor? the dog wouldn't know the difference.

Yes. It gets the floor cleaner than if you cleaned it up, the dog gets a "treat;" everyone wins. Besides, if it fell on the floor, I wouldn't eat it anyway, so might as well let the dog have it.

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!
Yes, it is ok to give you dog people food but if you teach your dog to scarf every oeice of food that falls to the ground he thinks he can eat anything that fall to the ground. What if it is chocolate? What if it is meds that could kill him? What you need to do is train him to wait for your ok to eat the food. Teach him "wait" and then "OK". for training ideas and tips feel free to email me.

It depends on what it is....but yes, usually. If you are going to feed the dog people food you should not feed him from the table or while you are eating...you should place it in his bowl. This will keep him from begging while you are eating.

I try to clean it up, but my dog is very sneaky and eyes me for "the drop" and pounces on it before I get the chance to clean up the item. If the food is very harmful to her I say "leave it" and she listens to me and lets me clean it up.
