Call your vet and ask...

It can be normal, and is usually a sign of over activity. I would call the vet to let them know, and they will likely want to see him just to make sure all is good, but as I said, it's usually a sign of too much activity too soon after surgery. If you cannot get in right away, I would apply cool (not too cold as that could agitate him even more and be counter productive) compresses to get the swelling to go down, and keep him as calm as possible ( no jumping, running, overly active playing, etc). If your vet determines that it's just from over activity, and you do not feel that you can keep him calm, there are options for home sedatives that can help keep him calm for the first few days after surgery to minimize the risk of something like this happening again. I would definitely call the vet though because their are things that could be going on that need to be checked out. Best of luck with him....

Actually, it is quite common. I have seen it happen in about 10-15% of dogs neutered. Usually, you just wait and it will reabsorb, no big deal.
Sometimes a steroid injection will be given to help. That has side effects by itself.
Call the vet and tell them, but they will probably say WAIT!! It should start to go down by the third day!!

My last Newf that was neutered swelled to the size of a softball. After the third day, it started to shrink, but took about a week or so to totally go away. There is always a little brusing to the scrotum.

There's always a degree of swelling after a neuter or spay, but never an abnormal amount. If you are unsure at all, call your vets office and ask if a technician can look at his incision. If the technician thinks it's something the vet should see, then he will. In either case, this is a post op visit and shouldn't cost you anything. Good luck

How do you know it's filled with blood? If it's just a little swollen, it doesn't mean it's filled with blood. If on the other hand it is black or too swollen, call the vet. Call the vet anyway, and describe the situation.

This didn't happen when I had my dog neutered. You should probably call the vet asap and find out, just to be safe.

No its not normal, you have to take him back to the vet immediately. Your vet should have told you that before you left with your dog.
