My friend has a ragdoll cat. She climbs the walls. Really, she climbs up the walls and hangs on. How can she get her to stop? It is really damaging her walls.

My grandma uses a water spritzer to squirt her cat when it does something bad, like try to knock over the X-mas tree. This would work for your friend, if she just keeps the bottle handy for a couple days her problems would soon be over.

Some people might think this is a mean way to teach a cat, but hey, it's not their walls the cat is destroying....and the cat will assoiate the water with the action, not the owner.

Hi Mel... have your friend consider clipping her nails weekly to blunt them so it makes climbing the walls more difficult as well as discouraging the behaviour.

Here's an instructional video by Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine on how to trim a cat's nails: http://www.felinevideos.vet.cornell.edu/trimming_claws/index.shtml

Tell the cat to stop if you catch her in the act. If all else fails, get her declawed.
