Seriously it seems to me that athiests act like they are better than others esp. those of us who believe in God. Like they are so much smarter because we are all idiots believing in some "invisilbe man in the sky" Im not saying that Christians are not condescending because some of them are, but I notice when I read athiests questions on here the askers all seem to have a chip on their shoulder, why is that?

Ok let me add that this doesnt bother me and I know that people are condescending I am just stating something that I have noticed and was wondering if anyone could give me a good logical answer without getting mad, which thus far only one person has been able to do.

Also as a person who blieves in God I do not push religion on people, and think it is wrong to peddle religion like it is crack. I believe what I want and you are open to believe what you want I just want to know why our beliefs make us think we are better than others.

I do try not to be condescending when I am answering general questions. But if the tone of the question deserves a condescending remark then I do not hold back from giving it.
Consider this, the athiests are in the minority, they are a small group and often get peoples disdane, and sympathy. I hear way too often "I will pray for you." So there are a great deal of emotional responces comming through in every comment that we respond to.

The logical answer is they aren't. At least not any more than any body else. The thing is, you are looking at it with a Christian attitude. So, if you see someone say they have the truth, and it's not the same as yours, you view it as condescending. Now, it's exactly the same for Atheists. I am sure that if an Atheist asked this question, they would have said that Christians are condescending. Because, just like you, they look at it with their point of view in mind, therefore, your truth would be condescending to them. I am sure you view it like this because they try to tell you your God doesn't exist. No different from a Christian telling someone they are going to hell. So, the answer may not be what you want to hear, but it all depends which way you view the question or answer. That's not to say some really aren't condescending, but no more than religious people.

PEOPLE are condescending and they do so for the reasons that people are not perfect. It's not about Christians vs. atheists and another thing is that it might just be YOUR perception that they're being "condescending" when THEIR intention might only be that they're being realistic. If you look at everything as being "picking on Christians" all the time, then you're going to see demons behind every door no matter how nicely they word/say something.

I think the thing that you should ask yourself is why does it bug you so much? Are they REALLY being so condescending or do you have a low self-concept?

I don't perceive people who lean back on faith as "idiots" but I do perceive them as having "wrong view". I write what I write to put out another viewpoint for all to consider. Take it for what it's worth. If you don't understand or don't like it, you have the freedom to ignore it. If you do like it, well, then I've done a service.

Try to see it from my perspective; I have seen several people acknowledge that my arguments were irrefutable and made perfect sense, and just choose to keep their current belief system. Most will not even make this acknowledgement and persist in immovable denial of all evidence I present, and gradually become angrier and angrier that I dare to question things they have never questioned. The second type usually doesn't even bother to refute my arguments and just tells me I will go to hell if I am persistent. We atheists treat the extremely religious as mental inferiors for this reason, although I do admit that some atheists enjoy making fun of the religious people on this site. That isn't right. It reinforces the stereotype that almost all religious people have been programed with of atheists as immoral people. I do not mean to hurt people's feelings when I say the things I say. I want all people to be knowledgeable and have the courage to question their beliefs.

Athiests are condescending for the same reasons Christains are condescending: they believe that their world view is the only correct one. Often we have difficulty accepting that the world could exist in a manner different to the way we believe.

everybody has the right to believe whatever they choses. but atheist or non-believers are just trying to teach others to walk through the light.
sign of being in the truth is you don't have to believe.anymore, bacause you already hold the proof. everyone who is alive have a truth, but not the reaLtruth. belief system is form of an immature truth
the problem is believers don't get it. they are too focus on the steroetypes of beliefs system, they don't think deeply enough into the real truth they just satisfied to simply believe
meaning those believer are living in false ways. true non-belivers saw the truth. and justy trying to live it.

Most of the time, atheists and many other religious groups are sick and tired of hearing about the same old story about how we'll go to hell unless we accept Jesus. It's mostly a self-defence thing. If Christians wouldn't keep trying to convert everything that beathes, atheists might not be so harsh.

I could be wrong, of course. It has happened before.

Most of the time it's simply because the atheists give the correct answers, and the Christians who respond to the same questions simply aren't as smart as the atheists. I suppose that we could pretend not to be smarter, but that would simply be dishonest.

Obviously not all of the Christians here say silly and stupid things, but there is an ample supply of those who do, and I see no reason to pretend not to be better than them. I am not going to lower myself to their level.

Well, frankly, I consider religion and theism to be quite stupid, a willing choice of ignorance and lies over truth. Why should I treat with respect those who are in the attempt to spread their own stupidity to children and weak minded people? I do not owe anyone my respect, and just as I am unable to respect a mass murderer or a rapist because of what he has done, I cannot respect a theist for their illogical and ridiculous beliefs.

you are right about the condescending

there may be a better way to express the absolute bitterness and anger at a way of life that disrespects others and tells them they need to repent from thier natural selves and believe in a next life, no mention of loving all people in this life

the chip comes from pain, sadness and frustration of the people who still do the 3 monkeys thing and reject fact and embrace belief in abject denial of reality

when others push thier views on me, I give my response based on experience, you of course have your own experience and no one can argue this

mine is christianity and many religions have shown themselves to be manipulative and about authority and power over you, or dishonoring to your existence as a person
