try your online bank site. Bank of America will allow the purchase of a gift card, really just a visa card with designated amount of money applied to it, and they remove the amount from your account.

Oh yeah, and paypal.com let's you pay for any online retailer, including gift cards, with your account there, and you just need your bank account number.

Microshaft will only accept cards linked to a bank account (debit) or a real credit card that they can verify your address to. This is their "Official" Policy. But if you just call the Indian some racial slur they'll hang up on you, when you call back tell them how pissed off you are that the previous person hung up on you, and that you are trying to link your Visa card to your account or setting up your account and you do NOT want to auto-subscribe to their service, they will set it up for you, so you can sign in. This auto-subscribe is the reason why you are getting the error, their system automatically rejects any cards that are not linked to your social/ personal address. If they know it's a prepaid card, they know they won't be able to auto-charge you for their service when the time runs out. The $1 you are seeing is probably some kind of service charge from the prepay card, when microsoft checks on the status of the card, and they see Visa Gifts or something other than your name they don't go through with the transaction. You can also try going to the website on the card and linking that card to your name. Answer the question? Be warned Microshaft is going to rip you off! :)

How much money do you have in your checking account today? I would suggest that you go into a department store and get one. Using your check account number is no way to guarantee that the money will be there when the charge goes through.

Maybe this is a lesson for you to get a debit/credit card at your local bank. They really come in handle because you can use them 24 hours a day.

you could go the bank that you have your AMT with and ask if you could get a debit. Yes! there are some website that you could go with just your checking account. But the best thing about debit is that you do not have a paid a bill at the end of the month! I love it ...good luck with that!

You can sign up with PayPal with just a checking account. Then you can buy a gift card. The process may take a few days.

Ummm...have you tried amazon.com? I don't know if they carry the prepaid gift cards, but you can pay for anything you buy there with your checking account number.
