Some time ago I attempted to answer this same question and included the entire recorded history of man(about 5,000 years) In all that time, untill the twentieth century there has never been an athiestic culture or nation. In the twentieth century there have been a few attempts to create such an entity, most notabley Nazi Germany, theSoviet Union and Maoist China. All of them were spectacular failures. Of every attempt at cultural or national atheism, only China survives as a unique paradox embracing both an open sociey and totalitarian government but it is no longer atheistic. China is now, truly, a nation in transition. Chrisianity, first among several religions is growing more rapidly there than anywhere on Earth. The secular, anti-religous trend we see throughout modern Europe is so similar in form and function,to the paganism of pre-Christian Europe that secularism is most clearly understood as neopaganism. It is therefor my conclusion that seculrism is the great myth of modern man.

No religion at all? Not sure about that.

But to give some enlightenment to some of the other answers...

Communist countries can, in fact, have religion. They just decide what is or is not permissable. In China, for example, Buddhism, Taoism, and Christianity are the religions allowed.

However, religion, to me, is just a way for humans to get closer to The One, a divine being that is omipotent but is unknowable as long as we are in a material form. It's a bit like penguins contemplating nuclear physics. It has nothing to do with a country, a city, or even a church/mosque/synagogue/etc. It has all to do with the person.

No country. No Place.
We all all born with the knowledge of right and wrong. It is not taught. We instinctively know GOD and long for a relationship with him. The confusion sets in when we try to figure out "how" to get there.
