Why do we shut our eyes everytime we sneeze?
Because it’s physically impossible to keep your eyes open when you sneeze.
Sneezing is a reflex reaction controlled by the autonomous nervous system, which controls your heart rate and breathjing and can’t be consciously controlled.
There used to be a theory that if your eyes didn’t close when you sneezed then your eyes would pop out, but nobody had been able to test it.

I am surprised by the numbers of people that actually think we close our eyes due to the body's autoreflex to protect the eyes from popping out of our heads.
Auto-reflex action - YES! But to keep our eyes from flying off onto the golf course - NO!
Unless I am extremely lucky - a few times I have sneezed with my eyes open, and I can honestly say (at present time) I do not need a Braille keyboard for the blind to type out this answer.
Its not easy to sneeze with your eyes open - but can be done. A few people can do it naturally. But i suspect those people are from another planet.... ;-)

I think that this is just a natural bodily function. I heard that there is NO way to keep ur eyes open when you sneeze, so I guess the reason we keep them shut is because we cannot help it. I will have to try it for myself and see though!

Most people shut there eyes when they sneeze, though rare, there are some people that do not. This is due to a reflex which has to do with nerves at the nose and eyes. You can read about it here

its is something that cannot be prevented !!
try sneezing with ur eyes open , ( u can`t )
did u know that when u sneeze ur heart stops for a mill/of a second , and ur sneeze travels at a speed of a 100km/ph.
think about it !!

well the true fact is there is no way u can sneeze with your eyes open. its a proven fact. have u ever tried? thats cause u cant. it u did your eyes would litterally come out. there is so much pressure when u sneeze. its just impossible.

I just love that everyone thinks their eyes will pop out - the first time I "heard" that was in a Calvin and Hobbes comic strip.

It's just a natural thing for us to do. I read somewhere that if we didn't close our eyes, our eyeballs would pop out of our heads.
