If your kids are small now and you are smoking around them you need to STOP that crap immediately------you are contributing to them having health problems later on. If they are a NON SMOKING ADULT and you are smoking hopefully they will have enough sense to move away from the smoke as it does and WILL CAUSE DAMAGE-------I have 2nd hand smoke disease(proven thru test and lung surgery from working amongst smoking prisoners at the time ) it is not fun having to take 10 diffferent meds 2times a day to help w/breathing.

My husband smokes but he ALWAYS does it outside and out of sight of the children. I am an avid anti-smoker and he is trying to quit...not easy.
Recently I stayed over at a smokers house for 1 night. I was sick for the following 3 days due to the effects of second hand smoke. How can anyone condone smoking in enclosed areas (apartment, house car) with children or other non-smokers?

First second hand smoke is not the choice for the children, They didn't smoke the cigarette and are not adults. If you knowing the dangers of smoking around others , especially kids ! That is abuse. When you bring a child in this world part of your job is to protect them from danger not expose them to danger. I think you should get jail time like any other abuser for hurting your child. sue! Oh yeaaaaah!!! Such people should not have kids It is not a crime to smoke and expose yourself to health risk ! that is your choice, But it crosses into child abuse when you blow smoke next to your kids, . The don't deserve to be parents and the kids deserve better. They don't get to choose

My boys just had to attend their grandma's funeral...she was only 59 and smoked like a chimney before she recieved her lung transplant that only lasted a couple of years.
Anyone that has children or grandchildren around someone who smokes has the obligation to let them know that their behavior is not only self-destructive but destructive to those around them. My boys may not get ill from the smoking they were around but they are now heart-sick.
Suing???...no, I don't think that is the answer, I think society has the obligation as well as the smoker to keep everyone safe.
God Bless!

I wouldn't know anything about that, I get all my smoke straight from the source. First hand. As far as the other folks go, just call them Bob and throw them in the pool. They'll appreciate the humour for a change, instead of people always trying to act phony.

no, just like the child who has an alcholic mother, who drinks when she was pregnant, cant sue...however I dont know why parents smoke in the home/car or where ever around their kids, and then they dont want them to smoke, second hand smoke is like putting the ciggerette to their mouth and having them inhale for 1 hour straight (except the niccoten) Every cigerate smoked in the home, is equivalent to 5 smoked by the child!!!
SMOKER PLEASE GO OUTSIDE!!

As a parent and smoker, I feel it is the responsibility of the parent to refrain from smoking in the same room. I smoke in another room away from my children...so they would not have to deal with my habit.
As far as suing.....it's all about money, everyone suing everyone for everything.....ridiculous.

Hello =)
Well.....
In the long list of all the horrible....I mean really really terrible things that parents have always done, and still do to their children, this seems like perhaps the most visible, but one of the least harmful.......
I think that is why you are so upset over it.
Should children be allowed to sue their parents for making them go to church against their beliefs....for using corporal punishment against them.....for psychological abuse (I don't know of a single parent who can truthfully and honestly say that they are not guilty of this one)....????
Perhaps yes, perhaps no.....
I think that we should be respectful and loving towards our parents and grandparents, and not consider suing them for any reason, really.....this overall "me me me me me" attitude has got to go.....anything that your parents have ever done to you was repaid a million fold over the years....trust me.
Namaste,
--Tom

I'm pretty sure the parents would be the one paying your medical bills anyway and there is no way to determine if your asthma is caused by your dad's cigarette or something else.
