I agree with you. If someone has a dog with white gums, that has diarrhea and is puking for days or a broken leg or tail no one should need to tell the person to "take the dog to the vet". If someone is not sure if their dog needs to go to the vet what makes them think a bunch of strangers that can not see their dog is going to be able to tell them or if they are even right in the advice they give? Wouldn't calling and asking a vet be the correct thing to do. I like the answerers who say that some people can not afford vet care( isn't this one of the things to be considered before getting a dog) but the vet does not charge to talk on the phone. It seems so few use common sense and what is sad is that it is the animals that have to suffer for the stupidity of others.

It depends on the situation. If the dog is whelping a litter of pups or a cat has a little diarhhea then the first option would be to handle it at home to see if the situation gets better. And while waiting people can ask other pet owners if they have any ideas on how to deal with the problem and ask for general advice. If it doesn't get better then the next option is the vet. Some people do have a few hum dingers on here, but for the most part the questions are good, valid ones.

Vet care is at the top of my list right along with premium quality pet food , living indoors and plenty of TLC. MY 9 year old staffy still plays like a pup. Oh, a lot of issues could be addressed here but when it comes to an ill or injured pet a vet will always be my first choice.

It all depends. That's why I've been answering. I'm a Veterinary Technician and some of the questions are easily answered, but most of them do need Veterinary intervention. I've been giving examples of things it could be, what owners should do, what they should expect from the vet, etc. I think it's important that owners ask questions and get answers because an educated owner equals a healthy pet. Which is what I'm all about.

If my cats and dogs are sick I take them to the vet and for the most part they are fine and I end up with a big vet bill. But not everyone cannot afford the luxury of taking their pets to the vet. If the pet is in serious need of medical attention I think it is that persons responsibility to take their pet to the vet regardless of expense. If your child was dying or you were dying wouldn't you visit a doctor?? I think it is neglectful and cruel when someone doesn't do this.

Well I would quickly check your animals stools for any sign of bleeding and worms.
Now if you don't see any worms or bleeding it still doesn't mean that their isn't any. What you really need to do is take them to a vet but if you cant afford to take all your animals to the vets take one run test on that one and it could help you out with answers on the others.
Your animals could have Parvo, a very bad disease and spreads fast and hits hard.

Now If you cant even afford that, Remember cruelty to animals is a serious crime and any animals that die from your negligence can lead to huge fines along with jail time.

Here is a Drug that is most commonly used for People and Animals Keflex cephalexin

But take your animals to the vets its the best way of knowing and getting fast answers.

Usually, yes. But, whenever my kid is sick, I don't always rush them right to the doctor. Sometimes it's just something they need to get over and doesn't always require a visit to the vet. I mean there are some obvious times when people need to take their pet to the vet. I've seen something along the lines of, "My dogs is choking, what should I dooooo?" It's not rocket science there what needs to be done.

A vet is not always the first answer. I'm sure a lot of the animal questions can be resolved here. I am more concerned with your sick obsession with the non-issue.

so true the vet should be the first option unless some of the listings are people playing jokes which are not in the least funny.

Talking to a live person should always be the preferred option over a faceless stranger on the internet.
