Anorexia is starving ones self. Anorexia Nervosa is an eating and psychological disorder that requires professional help. Some people that are "anorexic" have reason to be but do not suffer mental problems (some times people in the military become anorexic but not because of mental issues, but lack of food, people in starving third world countries are the same)

Bulima Nervosa is similar to Anorexia. They have the urge to eat a lot of food and then purge. It's a vicious cycle that also requires psychological help to over come.

Anorexia: An eating disorder characterized by markedly reduced appetite or total aversion to food. Anorexia is a serious psychological disorder. It is a condition that goes well beyond out-of-control dieting. The person with anorexia, most often a girl or young woman, initially begins dieting to lose weight. Over time, the weight loss becomes a sign of mastery and control. The drive to become thinner is thought to be secondary to concerns about control and fears relating to one's body. The individual continues the endless cycle of restrictive eating, often to a point close to starvation. This becomes an obsession and is similar to an addiction to a drug. Anorexia can be life-threatening.

I just want to add to what the others have said. Anorexia is a mental illness which affects both young women and men. A person develops the illness when their self image is distorted and in order to gain control over their lives they limit their food intake and increase their physical activity. It's a very sad thing and anyone who thinks they have it should seek professional help.

Anorexia = starving yourself
bulimia = purging (making yourself trow-up what you ate)
Anorexia can be with or without bulimia.
The most important is that anorexia is a psychological problem and should be treated by a professional in psychiatry. (a person very thin sees herself/himself as fat in the mirror) This is very serious because you can died from it or have severe medical problems.

no matter what weight the teen or young adult is they think in their own mind they are fat and HAVE to lose weight, so they eat leas and less until they are almost not eating at all, and this causes so many problems with the body from not enough fuel for the brain to function properly tot eh muscles being eaten by the body for fuel, to your organs just about shutting down ( in severe cases)
and up to death in the most sever cases...
and even on deaths door they still think they are fat, but do not forget it all starts off at a normal weight and thinking your a few pounds to heavy and then they take it to the extremes..
be careful, very careful

good luck

As everyone has said, it's starving yourself. If you haven't eaten in a long time and then try to eat again, your stomach may reject the food and make you throw up. That's a side effect of being anorexic. This happens especially if you haven't eaten meat for long periods of time. I knew someone who was severely anorexic and she developed excessive hair on her face and really saggy old lady skin. It was gross. I'd rather be a little overweight.

Bulimia is where the sufferer forces themselves to vomit after eating. Sometimes they binge (eat a lot) and then purge. Anorexia is where the sufferer eats very little if anything.
