Part of the growing up stage of life. They are still children but are trying to act as adults and cut the apron strings from their parents a little. They feel that they have found the one for them but the reality is that they are going to have their hearts broken a number of times but will also be responsible for breaking many hearts. Fact is they are not actually in love but have fond feelings and are very confused and just learning about live and love.

Teens have no gauge for love, only acting on impulse and lust and initial love- they lack the ability starting out to understand the complexities of love, of building a friendship and relationship. This is the experimental stage of life where they will soon be learning lessons and building foundations for (hopefully) having real and long lasting relationships later in life. In essence, like school, they are learning and testing themselves before going out into the real world.

I think most teenage love that lasts only lasts if someone becomes pregnant, so they marry, or the teens truly have mature ability to work things out. But fickleness and the need to "try everyone else out" and going away to college, tends to break up these loving relationships.

because they seem to let their hormones get the best of them, so they jump into things without thinking, which intern they end up with more broken hearts than one man/woman can bear.
