This model of camera does not have an S-video out. It only has mini-DV in and out. You need special cables to output to your computer, and your computer has to have a card that will accept mini-DV.

Yes, absolutely. However, before you buy anything check your computer for a firewire port (also known as iLink and IEEE 1394).

Thats what it should look like. If your computer has a port thats labeled firewire, iLink, etc. but its smaller, thats not it, its the same thing, but a different type. The type you want is a 6-pin firewire port.
If you dont have one, dont worry, go online or to any electronics store and ask for a PCI-firewire adapter (or just firewire adapter), and they should have one, or at least tell you where you can get one, they are not too expensive, $30 for a cheap one.
After you get it, install it. If your good with computers, you can do it yourself, or have someone else do it, but it should be pretty simple. Then go out and buy a firewire cable (4-pin to 6-pin) and connect the small end to your camera, the large end to your computer. Turn your computer on (if not on already), and put your camera into VCR mode. The computer should pick it up, and give you options for it. If not, go right into windows movie maker (or imovie), and click capture, and your camera should be there.
The editing process is pretty straightfoward, so i wont explain. As for capturing, its very simple as well, you should be able to figure it out. Obviously, if you are planning on buying a new computer soon, dont go out and do that, just look around for a computer that comes with a 6-pin firewire port. Hope this helps!
