I think swearing is better than anger and violence, so why is bad to swear????????????????????????

I think sometimes swearing is seen by some people as language used by uneducated people who don't know any other words to express their emotions.

I don't believe this myself, as I know many educated people who swear all the time. Personally I am not offended by any particular swear word, but I do believe there is a time and a place for it.

I can find swearing funny in certain situations, but I don't agree with swearing around children. It might make me sound like a hypocrite, but there is nothing worse than hearing kids swearing just for the sake of it.

It has it's place in society. I'm not generally offended by swearing though it does make me feel sad if somebody feels the need to swear alot. They seem diminished to me somehow. I don't like it used excessively in drama though, it slows the plot down. I once saw an Eddy Murphy film that I'm sure would have been 30 minutes shorter if they'd taken out the swear words. It can help to demonstrate character of frame of mind but it doesn't move the plot forward. Perhaps that's why it annoys people in really life, they have to waste time listening to it and it doesn't really say anything.

I just find it really offensive, when people swear during normal everyday conversation. If you're angry that's maybe understandable but not sure why you would have to choose swearing over anger and violence.

Swearing usually shows a lack of vocabulary and instead of using a more appropriate word, the **** and **** come flooding out........

Unfortunately, it seems to be the norm nowadays ...not sure why.

I have had the same thoughts. I was told recently that the "F" word is an acronym for "Foul Use of Cardinal Knowledge" and was used in describing traitors and those who leaked important info.
I don't know if this is true or just a hoax but if it IS true then I can definitely see how overreactive we've become about our words.

On the other other hand, cussing can be just as bad as violence as most of the time when you cuss you are TALKING violence, (EG. "You MF-er, I F hate your guts" is really a short way of saying, "you who have done vile thing to many mothers, I doing vile things hate your guts". )

Cussing may not be as bad as an act of violence but there is no proof that is replaces violence. The only people I can think of who use "dirty" language consistently and without regard to the children around them are more likely to be violent than my friends who are careful to watch their mouths.

You say that "cussing replaces violence"....but that would mean that people who don't cuss are more likely to be violent! What a foolish idea!

Am I more likely to beat my children just because I bottle it in and don't tell them "F you, you little SOB!" ?
I don't think so!

Everyone is capable of learning self-control and restraining from those practices which are generally frowned upon. Even if you think society is silly to say that certain words are "off-limits" (and I agree to a certain extent) it is better to hold your tongue in self-control then trying to push the envelope and ending up in a fight with some mother in the checkout line.

It doesn't replace anger or violence, it is just in a different form, its less offensive than hitting someone in the face but the sentiment is the same as if you were to.

swearing is bad , it replaces proper grammar and intelligence swearing replaces nouns ,verbs, adjectives when speaking if you are trying to explain something and you dint know what words to use throw in a few swear words and in most cases the other party will understand ,is does not replace anger and violence the words themselves are angry and violent, ever wonder why swearing is not tolerated in most social circles.

Anger is an emotion and completely normal.
Swearing and violence are methods that the immature use to deal with their anger.

I think you are right, but abusive swearing in the presence of those who are offended is a form of psychological violence as well.
