She keeps trying to throw up it seems like and she occasionally makes this very strange sound like she is trying to sneeze. Is she alright, in need of help or just trying to toss up a hairball?

Throwing up is pretty common for cats. However, if she's sneezing, check her for watery, runny eyes. She may have picked up a virus. If so, the vet can prescribe something to clear it up right away.

she is fine. she could be trying to get rid of a hairball. or kitty ate something that didn't agree with her tummy. just make sure she's eating and going to the bathroom and stuff. my cat had a broken nose before we got him and he has a nasal issue. he sneezes up huge globs of snot. the doc said there was nothing we could do so we just wipe his nose when necessary. so look at kitty's nose and if it's a lil weird looking, that could be the case

I think hairball is the culprit. You can get hairball remedy paste at the pet store or you can dabb some Vaseline (petroleum jelly) on on the front of kitty's paws - she'll lick them. Or you can put a little olive oil in her wet food.

Sounds like a hairball to me. Try getting some hairball aid. If that doesn't work, take a trip to the vet.

It's alright, depending on your cat's age. If she/he is old, then he is not throwing up, he is clearing his throat of a fur-ball after she/he has just groomed them self. When (s)he is trying to sneeze it might be a slight allergy, but to stay on the safe side, you should take him to the vet.
