thanks for all your responses. it helps. the thing i don't get is why is the media being silent on this? (rhetorical question)

am i overreacting to this? to me this is a HUGE deal.

someone armed crossed our borders and chased our guardsmen away! WTF? where's the outrage? isn't that an invasion? yeah there wasn't an army, but what if there is next time? cause you know, whoever it was will be back. now they know the guard is there just for show, and the border patrol won't do anything when two of their fellow agents are being sent to prison for enforcing the law.

There are dozens of National Guard entrance identification teams along the Mexican border, including east and west of both Nogales and Sasabe and on the Tohono O'odham Nation.

There were only 4 guardsmen at this post.
The troops stand post on hilltops next to army-green tents and serve as extra eyes and ears for the Border Patrol.

WHY ISN’T THIS PAGE ONE NEWS ACROSS AMERICA???

You can be sure of this: the new Democrat-led Congress isn’t going to do anything about this. In fact, it already looks like they’re ready to refuse to fund the border fence Congress voted to build -- and President Bush signed into law -- last year!

SOMEONE needs to do something -- and now, someone IS: the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps is building a REAL border fence along the U.S.-Mexico border!
As we can see AGAIN from this news story, the United States is under siege by forces and interests that have the capacity, over time, to destroy our great experiment of responsible self-government.

Members of the MCDC are organizing as citizen volunteers, to safeguard our beloved nation from violence, from sedition, from wholesale attack by those who do not love America and wish to see her destroyed or irremediably altered from a nation of liberty, equality, and justice, and a bastion of western civilization. The Minutemen are recruiting and training volunteer citizens who will stand as patriots for the promise that is, and ever has been, America to build a border fence.

If you are concerned about the chaos upon our broken borders, if you believe America should welcome legal immigration but reject colonization and Balkanization, then we need to join together to help the Minutemen secure the future of our nation for the American people and her posterity.

And a GREAT start is to build a REAL border fence along the Mexican border… to help STOP the “incursions” like this latest one in Arizona!

A U.S. Border Patrol entry Identification Team site was overrun Wednesday night along Arizona 's border with Mexico .

According to the Border Patrol, an unknown number of gunmen attacked the site in the state's West Desert Region around 11 p.m. The site is manned by National Guardsmen. Those guardsmen were forced to retreat.

The Border Patrol will not say whether shots were fired. However, no Guardsmen were injured in the incident.

The Border Patrol says the incident occurred somewhere along the 120 mile section of the border between Nogales and Lukeville. The area is known as a drug corridor. Last year, 124-thousand pounds of illegal drugs were confiscated in this area.

The Border patrol says the attackers quickly retreated back into Mexico .

Well, I did read something about it, and I just wonder why they even put them out there without so much as a pistol. The last couple years we've seen news stories where people have crossed to el norte armed to the teeth. Luckily there was no one injured...I think the incident is one more post in the border fence.

If you review the Treaty Of Guadalupe-Hidalgo, signed in 1848, it makes provision for the installation of such fortifications as might be deemed necessary to the security of both countries. One answerer to your question stated that they didn't believe that this congress would be effective on the border issue, on the contrary, I think the democrats can be VERY effective, as some of them were also elected in response to the GOP congress' unwillingness to be very pro-active on the US/Mexico border issue.

Mexico, as a country, basically has some very hard choices to make, either a) they can tend their own house, or b) they can look at america over a border they won't be allowed to cross anymore. Those are kind of the options, here, as I see it,
the GOP proved themselves rather 'ethically challenged', but I doubt there'll be any such confusion among the ranks of the democrats. The People, the majority of americans, have already spoken on the issue of illegal immigration, specifically as it pertains to dealing with Mexico, and although business interests may take positions counter to the People, ultimately the People will prevail.

I think Mexico's trying to follow the Right Path on this, but should they ultimately fail in their reforms against crime etc., then that border fence might have to get built. The cornerstone's been laid,
it's 2,000 miles, that's nothing compared to the hundreds of thousands of miles of highway, if not millions, across the country.
I do believe fences are easier and cheaper to build than highways, at that, depends entirely on the honesty and work ethic of those selected to build it. And, good fences DO make good neighbors. It may seem harsh to simply drop Mexico on its' butt, but when you're dealing with a drunk, sometimes the ditch is the best place in the world for him, until he sobers up.

Yes, we now know the facts, no one was attacked, or chased away. The National Guard was armed. The Mexican Nationals most likely didn't even know the Guard was there. Below are direct quotes from the newspaper article which most people obviously did not read or don't understand as they keep posting their own version of what happened.

"Armed men who prompted National Guard soldiers to leave an observation post near the Mexican border came within 100 yards of the troops, but apparently were unaware of the Guard members, authorities said Friday.
"There were no shots fired, no attacks, no overrunning of the National Guardsmen" or any contact with the group, Martinez said.
.
Maj. Paul Aguirre, spokesman for the Arizona National Guard, said those team members always carry arms for self-defense.
"There was no harm done to any of the personnel or the site," Aguirre said.
Martinez also said the soldiers did not report seeing the men carrying anything that might be contraband. "

Here is a copy of the article........hope it helps to get you ther facts you wanted.......

The incident occurred in the west desert corridor between Nogales and Lukeville in the vicinity of Sasabe, Balaban said.

The Guard troops are not allowed to apprehend illegal entrants.

"We don't know if this was a matter of somebody coming up accidentally on the individuals, coming up intentionally on the individuals, or some sort of a diversion," said Rob Daniels, spokesman for the Border Patrol's Tucson Sector.

Yes, I saw that. In fact the Minutemen organization in Arizona is saying they will now go armed by the National Guard to protect them, which I haven't quite been able to come up with a reaction to, yet.

Apparently they called the border patrol and withdrew because they were able to do so without danger to themselves, and they were instructed to take that action. Apparently also this is in the current 'hottest' drug trafficking area of Arizona right now. I'll see if I can find the links again.

Oh, nevermind. Someone posted it.

we'd want to desire some over there, yet i imagine this is extra significant to have improve border patrol. nationwide guards might want to not be educated ideal for a number of the legal subject matters in this. we desire nationwide guards there to assist preserve from rogue Mexican infantrymen and drug runners.

Yes, armed Mexicans apparently. The National Guard just moved their position because they are not allowed to apprehend illegal immigrants. See article below.
