I'm hoping the new congress will redirect the president. He just doesn't want to see what in front of his face. Iraq was a huge and costly mistake. Unfortunately, many lives were taken as payment! There are no winners here people, no winners!

No.
In fact, "Dubya" wants to increase the number of troops in Iraq this year. We are now into a full scale policing action, trying to prevent the inevitible civil war that will follow.

Many Iraqi's like the US presence (Don't let the news fool you, I've been there.) We help maintain somewhat of a stability, but as the numbers increase, the insurgents will take it as an invitation for a fight. Terrorist acts against the civilian population will increase to show the iraqi people how "ineffective" the US military is in an attempt to turn the masses against the US.

As the US population tires of the situation and demands greater accountability for our sons and daughters, we will hold fast in a secure area and say all is well. The Sunnis and Shiites will go for each others' throats and in the ensuing melee, we will find the reason to either let the military loose to do its job or pull out due to increasing losses and no end in sight. In order to save face with the world community, the US will once again increase its numbers in iraq to try and quell the ensuing civil war. (After all, who wants to take the blame for causing a civil war?)

Now the future looks blurry, our increase in numbers and letting the military function as a military will finally squash the rebellion at a great cost to Americans and iraqis. We will claim a "victory" to a war we should have won years ago, before congress mandated that soldiers basically take a bullet before they return fire, and return home.

Probably with the congress using politics to put Bush down. If you are a soldier in Iraq, would you want less protection? Viet Nam should have taught us NOT to let politicians run a war.

Write Congress and ask them. How are we to know? All I can say is.... I hope so. And, hope they will be able to pull our troops out safely.
